Finally an affordable, easy to use amp that sounds great

By BRAD WAXLER

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 20W 2x10 Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been looking for an affordable, easy to use, great sounding solid state amp for a couple years now. I've tried the Fender Mustang II (no great heavy overdrive options), the Peavey Vypyr VIP 2 (slightly buggy/non-existant community) and the Line 6 Amplifi ("stereo effects" were a lie and the sound was terrible). Out of those 3 I stuck with the Vypyr VIP 2 while waiting for something better to come along, and it finally has. As soon as I started playing the Blackstar ID:Core 20 I was relieved to find it sounded great right out of the box. It might not have the amp modeling like the amps mentioned above but what it does have is 7 different Blackstar sounds ranging from clean to heavy overdrive. They all sound great although if you don't like Blackstar distortion this amp may not be for you. Also, unlike the Amplifi the "stereo effects" really sound fantastic on the ID:Core. They fill the 15x8 room and feel like they're coming from all around. Finally the ID:Core 20 is plenty loud for home use. The Blackstar Insider software is a nice bonus and gives some extra features like EQ (low, mid, high) which there aren't knobs for on the amp. There's also a good # of tones that people have already created for the Blackstar ID line that work on the ID:Core as well. Bottom line - I've had this a couple days and so far I love it - easily worth the price. For $149 I think this thing is a steal!

Awesome Practice Amp

By KEN

from St. Louis, MO

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 20W 2x10 Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

Finally! A feature-rich practice amp that sounds amazing - all in a small package. I have been playing for 25 years and have had all kinds of practice amps. In the past, there were few small amps that sound "big". Blackstar nails it with the ID: Core 20. The stereo separation fills a room and it's full of tweekable effects. What the website doesn't tell you is that the tone controls (bass, mid, treble) are on the computer interface. While the amp sounds great alone, the software opens a whole world of possibilities.

What The Vox VT Amps Wanted To Be

By RICH

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 20W 2x10 Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

This is the best solid state practice amp I've ever played. I discovered this little gem while playing a Squire Strat that I was buying for my son through a HT-1. I noticed the 10w version of this amp right next to the HT-1 so I gave it a try. I was very impressed with the variety of tones I was able to coax out of this amp. I decided to get the 20w version because I wanted the foot-switch (10w doesn't have one) It wasn't until I got home that I was really able to appreciate this amp. The effects are very usable and the delay actually sounded like it was coming from the other side of my room. The stereo feature contributes to this effect. One pleasant surprise with this amp is how well it plays with my Digitech RP500. I set the RP to the "Killer" setting, set the amp on "Clean Bright" with the gain at 1/4 and this amp just ripped some of the nastiest, tightest metal tones I've ever heard from a small amp. The Overdrive settings without the RP are great are their own. But the combo of both is amazing. I suppose this is due to the full range stereo speakers in this amp. Smooth Jazz tones? Yes! Country twang? Check. Excellent blues tones as well. Considering the versatility you get for the price, 5 stars all the way.

Fun Amp That Sounds Really Good

By Fred

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 20W 2x10 Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I am having a lot of fun with this amp. I usually play through tube combos and have not owned anything solid state in probably 15 years. Bought this for quiet bedroom practice sessions. It sounds better than a little solid state combo should and can fill a room with sound with the super wide stereo. It does sound a lot bigger than it is. If I play with my back to it , it sounds like the sound is coming from a 2X12 cabinet. Not at all boxy as I expected. Effects are better than those found on other small amps and it has a lot of voices. It does not have 200+ amps and effects but has enough to cover most bases. It probably does not do downtuned heavy metal well but can cover some of the metal genre. Be aware that this thing is probably not loud enough to play even a small gig with and it really was not designed to do that. Maybe if the drummer plays with brushes and you put a big fat pillow in the base drum. Build quality is not what I would call super robust but sturdy enough for bedroom wankers and jamming in the living room. All in all a well designed and nice sounding practice tool.

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 20W 2x10 Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

I owned 4 other amps, two tubes ( Fender Junior and Vox AC 10) a Fender Mustang III and a Fishman Mini Loud Box. I bought the Blackstar ID Core 20watts for practice and I used this in our church choir. My gosh, the other guitarist who was using a Marshall 30watts combo amp was so impressed upon hearing me play. The stereo sound is just awesome and the effects are pretty cool. So if you're looking for a mini amp with a lot of power I will highly recommend this baby.

Bought this for my daughter's first amp. It may be her last. I didn't want her to have a toy, I can use this in most bars that I've played. It's lighter than the 3/4 scale strat I bought, has a built in tuner, headphone jack, MP3 outlet and I can go online for the 'slow downer' and metronome. If my daughter quits, I will keep this and get rid of my line 6.

Great sounding little amp. I especially like the clean bright and crunch settings. Built in effects sound very good and gives this product more bang for the buck. The ISF eq works well. I am really impressed with the sound quality.

MP3 input makes it possible to use this amp as a stereo reference monitor. You can also "Y" out from your guitar and run one channel through the amp's input and another channel through a stereo processor pedal and into the MP3 input for a MASSIVE stereo sound!

Comments about Blackstar ID:Core 20W 2x10 Stereo Guitar Combo Amp:

The amp itself is great, no complaints there. Six voicing a with 4 levels of reverb 4 levels of delay, and 4 various effects. The only thing I woul want added is bass treble and mids, although if you switch the preset to crunch or supercrunch or overdrive the bass and stuff is already added in, I'm just picky because I want to get that Metallica crunch. The downside is if you have a Mac CPU the CPU software is pretty bad, takes way to long to access, and the recording level is not great.

I've had plenty of amps over three decades but this little gem is a beast! I have no idea how Blackstar makes this amp sound so big with stereo sound. Delays literally sound like they are coming from different areas in the room. Chorus, Reverb and other effects sound great too. The only tone knob is the ISF but that's all you need with the tone knobs on your guitar. I have a Blackstar tube mini-stack as well that I love. Blackstar was born from a few Marshall techs. .
