Freind gave me a 2002 squire P-bass so before I chunked it in the trash I figured it might be nice to keep around the house. The pick up was shot so I got these Quarter Pounders on the advice of my Guy at Guitar Center... WOW... Easy to install and sound great. You will need to pay close attention to the mount hieght. I used high density rubber foam (0.99 at a craft store) to fill in the space under the pick-up. This gives you the Profile needed to "catch" the strings. Once in, these babys will purr and buck with little noise. At very high volumes they dont perform as well as the EMG's in my Dean but that is a different Beast... ...get them now!
I have a Kawai bass that's over 20 years old. Stock, it had Schecter pickups (1 precision, 1 jazz). So far I've only replaced the precision with this SPB3 pickup (wanted to see if it was worth it before getting both) and bypassed the existing tone knob with in/out switches for phase or who knows what. Just pickup to volume knob to pickup balance knob (it never used a 3 position switch) to 1/4" jack. Nice clean signal path. WOW!!! I always liked the feel of my bass but never was too impressed by the sound until now! It's made ALL my mixes sound HUGE! Even after adjusting height on my old pickups, the individual strings were never were at the same volume (low E loudest, quieter as you switched to higher strings). This pickup solved that problem!!! Thank you Seymore Duncan and thanks Guitar Center for having it in stock at my local store and for a great price!!! I'll be back to replace the jazz pickup for sure!!!!
Lots of punch to be had when installed in my Mexi P-Bass. However, this punch came at the expense of bottom end clarity, even with 2x10" and 2x15", sometihng that is valuable to my style. However, I could see this working wiht more punk and similar stylings. The overall quality is as good as you expect from SD: decent, but no extreme high end stuff (a la fralin, lollar, etc.). the polepieces weren't adjustable, but that's a minor qualm, really. Overall, I'd say it's good response if you don't want extreme low end.
