They are convenient being that no adhesive is required and I have no problem with double triggering but they are not made well. Exposed wiring at the top and the plug in for the 1/4" jack is not good quality, one of the triggers did not work if the chord was plugged in all the way, it would only work if it wasn't plugged in completely. I had to bend the metal plate for the bass drum trigger to work, it does say that bending the metal might have to be done. They just aren't that great as Ddrum makes them out to be and they're certainly overpriced by about $25. I hope they last awhile, spending $100 to some people is a lot for an inferior product.

Know your Product

By jon perieda

from Oklahoma City, OK

These are nothing more than a device to pick up a signal and send it to a brain (Drum Module, DAW). By understanding this there are many things thesea are able to do. I have done everything from drum replacement to a backing track trigger or an awesome Synth percussion set up. I run these to a Roland TD4. This product has nothing wrong with it, if you are having trouble, then you need to check the Brain and make sure the settings are set up right. Again this product is just a small part of an over all setup you need to do what ever it is you are doing. If you have questions, guitar center is most helpful, or don't be lazy and just research everything you need.

You Get WHat You Pay For

By David Donato

from Bristol RI

I got these just after Christmas. It took me a while to try them out. I use a DM-5 Alesis module. Acoustic drums. After spending hours trying to eliminate double triggering, crosstalk, and totally ruining my drums acoustic sound, I played maybe 2 times using them at rehearsal. Then the snare trigger wouldn't work. It wasn't the cord. Even though I had to muffle the hell out of my drums, and loosen the heads for these things to work, double triggering still occurred. Its too late to return these things. Lesson learned. In the future I will spend the money and get either d-drum pro or Roland triggers. And I know how to operate the settings of my module. I suggest they just take these things off the market.

red shot trigger pack

By Nick Lombardi

from Navarre, Florida

Haven't installed them yet but will be using these for the ghost notes and lighter hits. They will assist my current triggers that work well but need a little bit of finesse on the lighter stuff. I will use 2 per drum, set the parameters differently where one will trigger via the slightest of hits and the other will be set for the harder hits(and tuned just a touch higher in pitch! I spoke with a dude that had a great sounding triggered kit and thats how he was set up. His snare drum actually had '3 triggers' on it...and it was phenomenal sounding. As far as quality= it's DDrum and Guitar Center so I'm confident that if there are any problems they will make good on it. BTW the delivery was 2 days earlier than expected... peace, .......nikki from Navarre Florida! 40 year active player/Blues, Pop and Rock!

Poor Customer support

By David Donato

from Bristol RI

I am not talking about guitar center customer service, that was excellent. But I asked ddrum in an email how to eliminate double triggering , even though I have my settings maxed to do so. I guess your on your own. These triggers are designed for acoustic drums. I can only say you will need to get foam rings to dead-en all your drums so that they wont sound or feel like acoustic drums by the time you muffle them. I hoped to have the best of both worlds with the triggers. But I need to experiment before I return them.

Good for the money

By AJ "Twichins" Malloy

from Minneapolis, MN

I bought these almost a year ago. I use them with an Alesis DM5. I have used these to trigger both mesh heads( Pearl MFH mesh heads) and regular heads and they have worked very well. I have learned that with whichever heads and brain that you use you'll need to take time to work with X-talk and dynamic functions on the brain units to over come double triggering and sensitivity and such. As for the triggers I am a touring drummer and have had no problems with these units other than the metal bending from being thrown in the trailer. I would recommend spending the extra $100.00 and buy the Pro units which I have put on my new kit. I still use these on my other kit. These units have been drug all over the place and have never failed me thus far.

Poor Quality

By Dan M.

from Buffalo, NY

The day I bought these I hooked them up to my Simmons SD9K module and tried them out. Almost immediately the problems were there. Not only do each of the triggers not pick up strikes that are relatively light, they also cancel out strikes that are too fast like a blast beat, or fast single roll. Aside from the sensitivity issue, all of the triggers will add in additional strikes even if I hit the drum once. Not to mention DDrum customer service is horrible... probably because they have none. Their emails on the site are unresponsive and there is no toll free number. i highly recommend saving the money for a more reliable brand such as Roland.

WOW! These work better than expected!

By chad

from Loveland, Co

I use these with an ION drum brain for XBOX and they work great! I had previously used $1.99 piezo buzzers taped to my Tama Star Classic toms to play along with Rock Band (I hear 'real' musicians grumbling), but they always double triggered and were unpredictable and I had to put the game in 'no fail' mode. These Red Shot triggers are 100% accurate, which is a lot better than me anyway! I used to have to most problems with the floor tom because of the larger head, but now, no matter how I strike the drum, light or hard, I get ONE accurate 'hit', like you'd expect. Now, I am getting 97% in expert mode playing Ride the Lightning and Indestructible, etc in Rock Band. It's really fun playing along with acoustic drums and being able to trigger accurately. These are totally worth it. Can't wait to get an actual drum brain and try them out. - On a side note, one of the triggers was defective out of the box, so I called Guitar Center and they promptly sent out a new trigger free of charge. Customer service was great! Thanks!
