  • My 18" A Series Medium Crash Delivers

As reviewed by Blues Berry on 5/31/2011

In the mid 70's I purchased my first good set of cymbals. they were 14" New Beat HHs, Avedis 16" crash and 20" Ride. That was all I could afford at the time and they were the killingist set-up. Because I play mostly jazz and Blues, I moved up to Zildjian K's and used my Avedis primarily for practice. I've since added a set of "A" Customs. Last year I finally filled out my original Avedis with the A-series 18" medium crash and took them on a gig in an outdoor park in Brookly, NY. With the threat of rain, I didn't want to bring my high end gear. Peoples, those cymbals sang. The 18" A Series provided textures, swells and crashes that got the other drummers on the scene wanting to try them. The bell provided a nice clean but not too bright ring. The playing surface articulates well with the drumsticks whether it be the stick tips or their sides. Their crash was bright and clean and the tones from other area of the cymbals surface was nice. I now use the 18" with vocalist for that reason. The 18" A Series Medium crash is a great sounding and versatile Cymbal. If there is a down side, it is that it pitted more than my vintage cybals when played with heavy sticks or power. That's the only reason I can't give it 5 stars.

  • zildjian, the best.

As reviewed by Slyguy on 8/11/2006

The worlds most versatile cymbal, the zildjian a series, really do live up to their name. These cymbals have such an explosive sound with such a beautiful sustain. Although some people may be pessimistic of their traditional finish look, its all worth it once you begin to play on them. On most new cymbals they may sound like a clangy piece of metal the first few days, weeks, months, or even years. As the cymbal ages with time and playing, it will sound ALOT better. After you "break in" the cymbal you will immediately notice its beautiful sound it has to offer. Other than that, i believe that zildjian offers the best cymbals out there, after all they have been doing it since the 17th century!
