I had two of these when I was a kid. I moved on to several other guitars for gigging and recording. (Fender, Gibson, Carvin, Ibanez to name a few) I picked up one of these used at Guitar Center recently for $85 and bought it for outdoor gigs and jam sessions. (to give my fancy guitars a rest) I was shocked at how well the neck played and the overall tuning stability. Once the strings are stretched properly, this guitar is a champ. I put some stainless steel bridge saddles and pickups from a parts company, and it is now my main guitar. In fact, I bought three more and sold most of my other guitars. I am a firm believer in the 112j. It is the most consistent well made guitar in this price range, and several hundred dollars above this price range.

Its a pretty good guitar for a beginner. This was my first guitar and I've been playing with it for about a year and I still do instead of my Epiphone Les Paul. It only has two knobs, one for volume and one for tone but despite that fact, it still plays well. It has a nice sound when I play metal or rock but sometimes it's a little scratchy. It's really light which is one of the things I like most about it. Overall, it's a nice guitar. It doesn't look all great but its really sweet. I'd recommend it to anyone even if you're a beginner or an expert at guitars.

Great Guitar!

By Guitar Hero/Queen

from Hercules, CA

Comments about Yamaha PAC112J Electric Guitar:

I own this guitar, and I'm a beginner, but I really love playing it everyday. The guitar has ok pickups, and it's not too heavy or too light. I'm pretty sure this guitar will last you a long time, garenteed! The whammy bar is cool too. Good guitar to start with. Great price! I suggest you should buy it if you a beginner!

Ok guitar

By anonymous

from California

Comments about Yamaha PAC112J Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for about 3 years before I upgraded it was my regular guitar. The quality is ok, but not the best you could get for $200. Depending on your amp the pickups may sound muddy with distortion on. However the guitar is really good clean. The action is a little too high but that can probably be adjusted. Those are about the only problems I've had. Its been a good guitar for me, but there are better values out there. I would have to recommend Ibanez or Jackson out of the ones I've played. In the end it all comes down to what you like, don't go by reviews play it for yourself.

Great Starter

By Brandon

from Goodyear, AZ

Comments about Yamaha PAC112J Electric Guitar:

The Yamaha Pacifica 112j (PAC112J) was my first electric guitar, and I don't regret it one bit. I looked at other inexpensive starters, everyone told me this was the best one, so I bought it. The wood is nice and solid, the finish is great (I have the translucent green), and the pickups and hardware are great for a budget guitar. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone.

Best guitar under $200. Period.

By Joe

Comments about Yamaha PAC112J Electric Guitar:

It really doesn't get much better than this. Alder wood, good quality control, fast and playable neck, and decent (passable) stock pickups. If you're into modding, you might want to look into a more solid/weighty tremolo block and better pickups, but even if you leave it alone, this guitar will do pretty much anything you want. Other guitars in this range sound very muddy or fuzzy when you want some strong distortion, but the Pacifica keeps it pretty rich without sounding like you're going through a hairy clog in a drain. Not to mention I've seen tons of guitars with necks that didn't sit right in the pocket and fretboards that were a mess. The Yamaha folks make it right almost every time. There's less cherry picking needed to grab a worthwhile instrument that can serve you well for a long time.

I bought a yamaha pacifica 112J in Sunburst and it sounds great and this is my second guitar. I am a beginner and the music i play like metallica, quiet riot, alice in chains, and ac/dc it all sounds like the songs that they have recorded. I would Highly recommend this to a beginner.

Comments about Yamaha PAC112J Electric Guitar:

I am a professional level player and teacher. I have owned and played nearly every popular guitar you can think of. This is the "Honda" or "Toyota" of guitars. I often use it for gigs. Totally solid, reliable, versatile guitar. This is NOT a beginner guitar - its specs are the same as American Fender Strats and others that are very very expensive. There are a lot of terrific bargain guitars these days but for a strat this is the one to beat. I greatly prefer it to the Fender Standard Stratocasters that are made in Mexico. Get the black one - be like Clapton and The Edge. Pickups do NOT need to be changed. Tone is in the hands, strings, amp and the way you EQ your amp - get a tube amp like the Bugera V22 or a Peavey Classic plug this in and go. Get a teacher. Enjoy!!! I have been playing the Pacifica 112's for almost 20 years now and they live next to my Gibson and Tokai Les Paul, SG and Flying V guitars.

I've been playing Pacifica's for over 12 years and have to say I still love this model. It's just so easy to play and I continue to be amazed by the variance possible in it's tone, especially for recording.

    By ayden

Comments about Yamaha PAC112J Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for about 2 months, i'm pretty good at guitar and i feel this would be better for more startting on. the stock pick ups are pretty good for what they are and the neck is all right, i get a little buzzing but i have the strings lowered so if they were higher that mite fix that. all in all a good guitar for the price, or for starters.

Comments about Yamaha PAC112J Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a specific look like Tom Morello's Arm The Homeless guitar and I originally bought a Fender squire bulllet guitar but I was disappointed that it ran out of the lake blue color. I was fortunate to have a nice sales associate find the right color and I was pleasantly surprised that the guitar had a great sound and feel to it. The two things I look for in a guitar is comfort ( is it light and sleek) Sound. Have to say I love jamming to Rage Against The Machine, Street Sweeper Social Club and Prophets of Rage songs in Standard tuning. The sound is great and delivers.

I'm pretty much a hack and play mostly for myself. I'm also a Fender products guy and just can't seem to get a Gibson family guitar to fit me well.
This Yamaha comes highly rated and well regarded for the price. I thought I would give it a shot. Feels much like my Fender Strat Blacktop so I like the way the Yamaha plays. The neck is great and the pickups are clear and sharp. I really like this guitar.

Comments about Yamaha PAC112J Electric Guitar:

Yamaha makes excellent guitars, not because they use better parts, but because their attention to detail and quality control is far superior to most other guitars in its class. They use good quality materials (alder, rosewood, decent electronics), and they pay attention to their manufacturing. Have you picked up a Squier lately? How about and Epiphone. Most of their guitars in this price class have poorly finished necks, uneven fretboards, and fret ends that are so rough and sharp we call them "cheese graters." Even the finish on the Pacifica line is a notch above. The neck is a joy to play, and the slightly smaller body size makes playing a joy.
