Comments about Vic Firth Legacy Wood Handle Retractable Brushes:
I enjoy playing with brushes. I primary play Jazz, Blues and back-up vocalists. My favorite Brushes are the Regal Tip Ed Thigpen Wire brushes which are many years old and also have the wooden handle. As I was looking to buy a new pair of brushes, I purchased these Vic Legacy brushes When they were on sale. They were cool, but the wires on the legacy are very stiff and difficult to open and retract. However, because of their stiffness you are able to get a nice bounce off of the drumheads, giving them a close to stick feel. Their sweeping sound is also very nice. The wood handle will give you a satisfactory Latin rim shot and the metal pull ring provides good sound effects on cymbals. The Legacy brushes are also louder than more flexible brushed, allowing you to be heard when playing with big bands and/or large venues. Overall, I like the Legacy brushes, but prefer more flexible wires.
