Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 "The New York Studio Legacy Series" is a complete overhaul of the original dfh Superior engine. The Toontrack team made painstakingly sure not to lose any of the sound quality, attention to detail, and musicality of their popular drum sampler.
Superior Drummer 2.0 has been redeveloped for optimized use with e-drums with more effective use of sample layers and much improved loading times. It includes custom MIDI played by Nir Z accessed through its new customized MIDI engine and arranger, EZplayer Pro, and has standalone capacity through Toontrack solo. Premium UK-based software developer Sonalksis has outfitted the Superior 2.0 with a 5-band EQ, high and low pass filter, compressor, gate, and transient designer filters.
The interface is reminiscent of EZdrummer with its simple handling and layout but gives the user layer upon layer of in-depth features to create the ultimate drum track.
Superior Drummer 2.0's samples were recorded by Pat Thrall, Neil Dorfsman, and Nir Z at Hit Factory, Avatar Studios, and Allaire studios, NY. The three have worked with artists as diverse as Meatloaf, Celine Dion, Nick Lachey, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Beyoncé, Björk, Kiss, Joss Stone, Genesis, John Mayer, and Chris Cornell.

This was exactly what I was looking for. I don't have time to program a drum machine, and needed a simple drum program. SP2 has surpassed my expectations. The included midi files where not exactly what i was looking for, but i downloaded the songwriters pack and found exactly the right drum files for my purposes. Awesome program!
I just bought and installed the Superior Drummer 2.0 software a couple of days ago, and have been checking the ins and outs of this program. I was totally blown away at the level of realism, the clarity of samples, the ease of playing, and the tons of mixing and playing features it has built-in.
This software gave my songs a more natural sound; meaning, it was much more difficult to tell it was a sampled software program (MIDI) rather than a human. Also, the ability to change drum parts and individually mix them (5-band EQ, gate, comp, trans,etc..) makes this a sweet product. And it has such a beautiful interface. I listened to my old Logic Pro 9 drums and they sounded disgusting after getting used to listening to Superior's drums.
My only problem was not with Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0, but with the Guitar Center salesman not explaining to me that although I was testing these incredible drum sets (Nashville, Metal Foundry, Latin Percussion, etc..) inside the Superior Drummer 2.0 program, THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH IT. I ignorantly purchased the Toontrack VSSD box, which comes with ALL of Toontrack's products, only to find that I could only authorize Superior Drummer and it's three drums sets (N.Y Avatar, Pop/Rock, and Cocktail EZX) since I had only paid for the SD 2.0 serial code, not the ENTIRE library. Thanks, GC salesman.
Nonetheless, I am well-pleased with the quality of this sample software. I would definitely recommend it. Just know that you have to pay for each library code.
I have the 64-bit version and most expansion packs and midi packs (which are dirt cheap). I am a one-mand band and have created hundreds of songs ranging from metal to jazz and the drums are so good I feature them prominently in the mix. I love how many fills each song provides, and you can use many fills in many other songs. Once done with a song, I load different kits and see which is best for the song. This has been the best value by far of any musical software I have ever purchased. Once you get past the minor learning curve, you will be inspired to use the loops to create great songs. I have the DR-880 and I almost never use it anymore (except for custom fills using the pads to trigger SD2). I also use Beta Monkey and Drums on Demand drum loops, which sound great, but don't offer the flexibility of SD2. You can check out my You Tube Videos for demos. Just search on Chris Aanensen and listen for yourself!
