The heralded Dreadnought guitar is the most traditional of all acoustics. By definition, it’s a battleship of a guitar and the Taylor DN Series pays tribute to that legacy—and then some. The Sapele/Sitka Dreadnought 6-String's booming bass and articulate mids dare you to dig in and challenge your flatpicking prowess. Signature Taylor performance, quality, and value make our sapele/spruce acoustic guitars a great introduction to the solid-wood Taylor experience. Simple, traditional styling and renowned Taylor craftsmanship make this combination one of their most popular models.
The warm tone and open midrange of sapele balances the bright and snappy characteristics of a Sitka spruce top. The resulting combination provides the perfect guitar for strong, rhythmic playing styles.
The Taylor Dreadnought is a focused guitar with plenty of presence, recently redesigned to be even more assertive. It’s the traditional choice for the traditional player; the model to drive with a heavy pick.
Gloss Top/Satin Back & Sides
The finish used to create this guitar's textured satin back and sides and lustrous gloss top was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultraviolet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes.

after owning this and the martin D-35 i can honestly say the booming basses and great mids are nearly perfectly identical! quality is very comparable. overall if you're looking for a great rhythm guitar to play booming gospel and johnny cash i would say this is probably the best option in the price range!
I've been playing guitar for almost 20 years now. I grew up learning to play on my father?s vintage Gibson acoustic. As I got older and started touring with a few bands. I had the pleasure of playing a band mates Martin D-28. His was pretty nice and so the past year after our 4th year of touring and playing that Martin. I decided to get one of my own. I went into every guitar store in my area trying to find "the one" acoustic. I tried Martins (including the D-28) and Gibsons, only to be utterly disappointed by something. I didn?t even give Taylor a try. So as I am sitting in Guitar Center trying to convince myself to spend 2k+ on a Martin D28 that really wasn?t doing it for me. I decided to try out a few Taylors. I tried almost every Taylor in the 2k range. I liked a few but I still wasn?t "sold" on one. Not knowing what guitar I picked up or its price I started playing the DN3. I'm still looking around at guitars around me as I start strumming the guitar...Even perfect sound and tone meets my ears. I look at what I'm playing and it?s a DN3 priced slightly over a grand. I kept playing it and couldn?t stop playing it! Ebony board and bridge pins, comfortable slick neck with ease of playing, bone nut and saddle. I was shocked to be honest and sold! This was it.. a Taylor DN3! I showed my band mate the DN3 and he couldn?t let it go either! He even offered trading his beloved Martin for my DN3 but I told him this was my gem I searched 2 months for. If you've read this review do yourself a favor get this guitar while you still can. It?s no longer being made and it?s rare now a days to find such a well-crafted and sounding guitar! Also to add, I never write reviews for anything but I decided to share my story.
I bought this guitar about a month ago at the guitar center in Harrisburg P.A. I traded in my takamine 350sc for this guitar and I must say I am truly satisfied, this guitar stays in tune and sounds amazing. I went into the store not knowing what guitar i was going to buy. I played a couple of taylors and a few martins but I always came back to the dn3. The only thing I have a quarrel about is the fact that there is no pick guard but I can overlook this because the sound is so amazing.
I have played guitar all my life, but I have never been a guitar player. (if you know what I mean) I love my DN3 so much I play it all the time and I am learning more than I ever thought I would. the easy of play is incredible. this is the best bang for your buck if you want a truly high end guitar. My buddy's that can "truly play" love it so much they always want to play it. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS GUITAR.
I had saved enough to get a new acoustic guitar. Went to the Wilmington, Delaware Guitar Center and played a few there to "feel". The last one I tried was a used Taylor DN3. Seemed in perfect condition, and felt so wonderful to play. I had to have this guitar. So, she went home with me. . I was so impressed, I went back to Guitar Center, and bought another Taylor, this time, a new 214ce/blk, also a sweet playing guitar. The people there are very helpful. I went back the next day and bought 2 humidifiers for my Taylors and a few other things. I am now a fan of "Taylor" guitars, a true acoustic.
