The 2014 Fall Limited 712e-FLTD 12-Fret model matches Taylor's short-scale Grand Concert body with visually stunning blackheart sassafras back and sides and a Sitka spruce top. The sassafras imparts a blend of low-end warmth, mahoganys woodiness, and rosewoods top-end sparkle, yielding a voice with impressive overall focus and projection. In addition to the 12-fret design, the guitar also features Taylor's Advanced Performance bracing, borrowed from their 800 Series. As a result of both, players can expect a slightly bolder, meatier quality to the sound, which can handle fingerstyle, picking and strumming with ease. Blackheart Sassafras
Blackheart sassafras is an exotically beautiful variation on the more common sassafras tree thats native to Tasmania. The œblackheart distinction refers to dark, dramatic striping in the otherwise blond-colored wood, which is caused by fungi that form in the heartwood of the tree. Its tonal properties give it a truly unique sonic personality compared to other tonewoods. It blends some of the dry, woody response of walnut or mahogany; the note separation and focus of maple or myrtle; and the top-end overtones of rosewood.

Grand Concert
The small-body Grand Concert debuted in 1984 to meet the needs of a new wave of adventurous acoustic fingerstyle players. In contrast to the traditionally darker, boomier voices of bigger body styles like dreadnoughts and jumbos, the GCs compact size and tapered waist kept the overtones in check. It was also more comfortable to play while sitting down, and the guitars slightly wider neck gave players more room for complex fingerings. The GCs smaller sonic footprint also fit cleanly in a mix with other instruments when tracking in the studio and with a band on stage, making it a useful tool for professional session and side players.
