A snare that offers a classic appearance with higher-grade materials for a full tone and response.

With upgraded hardware and powerful projection from a steel shell, the Tama S.L.P. Vintage Steel Snare is a far cry from a typical, add-on snare from a shell pack. This drum also has a wider tuning range and sounds great at the low or high end of the spectrum.

However, the innovations don't stop at the tone and appearance. Tama's work on identifying the ideal snare sound led them to develop the new hardware like the "Sound Arc" Hoops which add sustain and a fuller frequency response. Hearty brass tube lugs will ensure a long lifespan for your tension rods, as well as your tune. And finally, the Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Steel Snappy snares will emphasize needed punch and attack, as needed.

Tama S.L.P. Vintage Steel Snare Drum Features:

  • Steel? Sounds that good? For that much?

As reviewed by Ben Dowd on 1/29/2013

I purchased this snare a year ago this month, and i honestly have no complaints about it. First off, like many other snares, this thing looks way way better in person. It's a beautifully crafted snare drum, tama has a trend of that. I don't like tube lugs or beaded shells aesthetically, but the two together on this drum look wonderful. This snare is wonderfully organic for steel. It's slightly dark with a beautiful open crack. They labeled it properly, vintage steel is a great name for it. it has a great shuffle-esque style and is greatly sensitive and earthy considering it's material. This snare about has the gut of a brass snare. The vintage rims give this snare a great look, it resonates so warmly, and they don't carve you sticks up like other hoops. i'm a huge stickler for a snare's cross stick sound, as a younger drummer, i never had one that had a good cross. I can honestly say in my 12 years of drumming, this is one of the top 3 best cross sticking snares I've heard. Wonderfully crisp, nice pop, and the snares react just right to it. I'm a heavy hitter, and i haven't been disappointed with this snare as I dig in. It's open rim shot cracks and reverbs like the best metal snares out there. Once again, warm and vintage, but powerful and pops just right. Not too sharp, just right. This snare is actually louder than my 14 ply Starclassic G-Maple, which is really saying something. Overall you cannot go wrong with this snare. It's blend of sensitivity, warmth, power and vintage texture makes it an awesome go to snare. I have rarely used any other snare for my worship project, it is just perfect for the widely dynamic playing we do. It's been my go to snare since I purchased it. I highly recommend this snare to any musician, veteran or beginner.

  • Great Snare

As reviewed by Brandon Streets on 4/24/2014

I have had this snare for about a week now and I love it. I like to tune up pretty high and let it sing. It comes with Evans G1 for batter and Hazy 300 for side. It is beautiful and so shiny, very impressed. The sound is awesome with a great crack and crazy loud as I like it. The resonance is really great because it does have some ring to it as any metallic snare would with no muffling. But if you tune it right it's actually pretty minimal. I don't like to muffle my snare and this baby has great attack and can really sing. You won't be disappointed if you get this. One issue I did have when tuning it (without even playing it yet) the Hazy 300 side snapped and broke away from the rim. Really weird and never had this happen but Evans took care of it right away no questions asked. I love Evans they have always taken care of me (which I can't say the same for Remo). Get this if you want an incredible steel snare for a GREAT price. Oh by the way I use it for hip hop, classic rock, metal and funk.
