Full library of impeccably recorded drums.

At the heart of Steven Slate Drums 4.0 Platinum is the SSD Player, a state-of-the-art Mac/PC (VST, RTAS, AU) drum sampler built from the ground up by the award-winning development team behind the Slate Digital TRIGGER drum replacement processor. The SSD Player is extremely easy and intuitive to use. Loading kits, customizing kits, mixing kits, loading and auditioning MIDI grooves, customizing MIDI maps, and routing discretely to your workstation are easy with the SSD Player. It even lets you load your own drum samples to mix in with the Slate drum kits.

100 Kits means that your drum sounds are covered. New in 4.0 are dozens of new DELUXE series kits that were recorded with extreme precision, resulting in a natural playability. In SSD4 Platinum, you'll find Rock, Metal, Vintage, Indie, Funk, and even Jazz/Brushes Deluxe Kits.

SSD4 Platinum also brings back the classic Slate "Mix Ready" kits, but all reprogrammed for better sound, response, and realism. Included in these classic kits are the famous "Signature Kits," which are drum kits modeled after famous sounding artists and albums. Signature Kits include: Steely Dan, Metallica, Dream Theater, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Nirvana, Pantera, Deftones, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Motley Crue.

SSD4 also features a brand new cymbal pack from Soultone Cymbals. These custom Turkish cymbals are some of the best sounding in the world. From the dark VINTAGE series to the bright and shimmery EXTREME series, these cymbals give the drum kits the ultimate brass accompaniment.

New in SSD4 are five kits in the Urban/Dance/House/Electro genre designed by producer Griffin Boice. These kits are processed with boutique analog gear to provide the fat, radio-ready sound you'll want for your pop, urban, and dance mixes.

I had the previous version of SSD (3.5) that ran through Kontakt. That product was probably one of the best choices I've ever made. The drums sound powerful yet authentic and the ability to create your own unique sounds with the samples was second to none. I went all-out and decided to get the platinum version of the new SSD, and I'm actually kind of shocked. While the new samples (as well as the old), are absolutely fantastic, the new sampler is a little iffy. Having used Kontakt for awhile now, I'm pretty spoiled with samplers. While the new one is very simple to use, it does NOT have the customize-able features that the older ones have. You can't add effects to individual drums without making each drum its own track in your DAW. On top of that, these are not multiple-hit samples. This means instead of taking multiple hit samples of each velocity, they just lazily slapped a single hit for each different velocity. This is an absolute nightmare for those wanting to program drums. The only reason I wouldn't give this a lower score is because the samples themselves are VERY high-quality and the electronic samples were surprisingly great (even though I have Battery from Native Instruments, so I really don't need them). If possible, I would say get the older version. However, you can get a good sound from this software. I would only recommend it for people who are willing to work for a good drum sound or want to blend these samples with other ones.
