I went to Guitar Center and the sales person told me about the Steinberg UR-22 and I bought it, a ST-55 microphone, and some other stuff. The quality of the UR-22 seems a lot better than other interfaces of similar cost. The drivers for the UR-22 set up right away, whereas the Presonus system I bought and returned the day before was never identified by Windows. The UR-22 works great and the Cubase LE AI Elements 7 software that comes with it is unbelievable! I don't know a lot about music software but I am amazed. I am sure that the full version is in my future. So, I had another great experience at GC, this one at their Raleigh NC store, good friendly people, good stuff! Thank You!

I have been attempting to use this product for over a week now. First, the original download code I received when I bought it on site at Guitar Center was already used. They ordered me a new unit from the factory. I have since been tunneling through the endless nightmare of download, activation, and licensing where no single complete list of steps or directions seem to exist. What's worse, you cannot seem to call customer support. The only communication is through 24-48hr email exchanges which thus far have been less helpful than my many hours searching for my own answers online. I have not been able to use Cubase, so I cannot comment on the software or the interface at this time. However, I am completely convinced that it is easier to steal information from the NSA than it is to download software you paid for from Steinberg. That alone is how I'm influencing my rating at this time.

Nice But One Bad DETAIL

By Mixing

from florida

I liked everything thing bout this product but after a single month of using it the driver went bad. I did everything to make sure it wasn't my computer but it was crackling pop noise on top of the audio playback.Steinberg support sucked and no phone line to contact I've used several interfaces .

Good digital/ limited analog

By James

from Manor, tx

I have had this unit for a year. The digital/usb side is great. The drivers decrease latency dramatically. using an Epiphone Alleycat and a Sure 58 and the sound is great. Clean and easy into the computer for whatever. The ur22 is also supporting my performance rig. The phantom power is what is needed to drive the at2035 mic for the acoustic guitar. The unit I bought had a recall for a low end hum that I only discovered when I added my at2035 mic. After talking with an audio engineer that I am blessed to know, George S. I looked into known issues and found a recall on the Stein berg site. They are taking care of the issue now. But I lose my pre-amp for how long? I am looking forward to getting it back. The audio output is a pain . You get two outputs but they are both mixed outs, no discrete channels. This will probably be ok, once the hum has been removed.

Beware Bad Product!!!!!!!!!!

By Darryl

from Lake Dallas, TX

I wouldn't give this product any stars at all but that was not an option. I bought the UR22 on the recommendation of a sales associate and here is what happened when I got it home. I had some problems setting it up so I went to the Steinberg website. Well low and behold, There is no phone number listed anywhere for technical support. You can only send an email to make an appointment for them to call you. Well guess what?? I tried to send an email and it said I had to register the product to even send them an email. When I attempted to do this I was told it was an invalid product code so no way to reach them at all. Any company that doesn't back their product any better than this and they are apparently to good to even talk to their customers. Well I don't think they deserve our business. AVOID STEINBERG LIKE THE PLAGUE!

better than Focusrite

By lance gregory

from Denver, CO

So..... After going through 2 defective Focusrite 2i4's (first one defective out of the box, the other didn't even last 48 hours) I decided to go down to GC and see what they have. Happened across this little beauty. Took it home, and had literally ZERO issue installing drivers for Win8. I use Sonar x1 producer, and this thing was painless to sync. Some of the features I like most about this unit (at least mine) I get a very clear, loud signal. No need so far for a headphone amp, which was going to be a requirement with Focusrite. I have the JBL 3 series powered monitors, and I'm definitely getting more signal to the monitors with the ur-22 over the 2i4 (most people never mention these things, I guess to most they're not important)it blasts my face off at about 4-5. So far I've been very pleased with Pre's. No frills just nice clean tone. I get great results recording guitars and Vox. I will be recording multiple symphonic instruments soon, so we'll see how that goes. Was thinking about the Roland Duo-Capture EX, but this guy has a few more features, like the MIX knob (vital for me)it also has a HI-Z input (Roland has 2, Focusrite a whopping zero)So far very pleased!!!!

Do Not Buy This Interface For Guitar!

By Thomas Wallace

from Dayton, Ohio

I bought this interface based on a recommendation by an associate at Guitar Center. Worst interface I've ever owned for guitars. It recorded vocals fine, but when I ran my guitar through it I got a constant pulsating hum. Googled it and and it is a very common problem, Steinberg offers a fix for the phantom power giving a hum, apparently that is a common problem as well, but not just a normal hum. I read another review of someone having the same problem and exchanged his for another UR22 through Steinberg, still to no avail. Stay far away from this interface... Guitar Center does not typically allow returns considering the interface comes with software.

Ths is what you need!

By Steve Nelson

from Bedford, Iowa

I have owned many audio interfaces, but this one is by far my favorite. The construction is solid the sound is wonderfully transparent and quiet. With a no hassle setup and zero latency you will be happy you made this purchase.

Superb!

By Charles-miller Wabeno

from Baltimore, MD

I'm an audio engineer, recently graduated from SIRA. I went to Guitar Center with a set mind to buy a presonus or a focusrite because I was checking them out for quite some days. Then I asked the sale man to show me a better audio interface around the same price, that's when he told me to rather buy the UR22. He was right on the money. This box is as solid as a bison, the sound is crystal clear, and it has zero latency. After putting a bunch of plugins in my tracks, I went on and did another take, I didn't have any latency issues. Contrary to the Lexicon Omega interface which was getting hot after few hours of being used, the UR22 doesn't get hot at all, probably because it's USB powered. The installation is relatively easy. I highly recommend it to all with a limited budget.
