In 1878, the eight Slavic Dances for Piano (four hands) were composed - later arranged for orchestra - that appeared help Dvorák's international recognition. The dances are among Dvorák's best known piano literature. It uses no original melody, but rather relates characteristic elements of slavic dance music into the characteristic melodic invention.
