  • Perfect Leslie Mic

As reviewed by Den on 1/7/2010

I didn't see any reviews on this mic, so here's a first. I got one of these to record trumpet way back, I was on a very tight budget and this was all I could afford. The money situation has gotten better, and so has the mic selection. I now have a little over a half dozen SM57's, a few condensers, and other assorted mics. I have three leslies in the studio, and two of them have the old PG57's on them still (the third is a lower rotor only frankenstein leslie, and the SM57's add a bit of needed high end). I've done a bunch of A/B comparisons with the sure SM's and these, and I still keep coming back to these for leslies. They have a warmth on the upper horns that the SM doesn't have, it still screams but there's no harshness whatever. I also still use it on trumpet occasionally if I need more of a miles sound, but I usually use an SM for that as well. Snares and guitar cabs still sound way better with an SM 57 than this, but to my ear this is THE leslie top mic.
