This pickup is truely a wonderful experience for me as it has immensely improved the amplified sound of my Fender 12 string & Yamaha acoustic guitars. It has a very bright but warm and well balanced sound. The output you get from it very dynamic and so natural. I used it even with my Hi Fi system and it just produces amazing sound quality with lot of natural warmth and clarity with almost no feedback at high volume unless you are sitting very close to amp. My friends are amazed with the sound it produces. It has a very nice finishing with real maple wood enveloping the magnets so beautifully thats it just looks like a part of your guitar. I even used some effects pedals and it justified all of them remarkably. The cable is of high quality with a metal high quality jack so no problem faced to me so far. The pickup has slots with very durable and soft sponge type pads to prevent your valuable guitar sound hole from scratches. It can comes on and go off very easily in minutes. The pickup unit is very solid indeed as it does not feel like a toy but has got the guts to handle and face all the rough handling while using at home or on the road. I think no one should miss this incredible stuff as it can even make a cheap acoustic guitar sound like pros. Now please do not think over and over again, simply go and get it. Thanks & regards.

If I were rating purely on sound, I'd give this pickup a full 5 stars. But there is a significant amount of hum if you're not sitting EXACTLY in a particular position in relation to your amp; then the hum goes away completely. I have another acoustic with active pickup (bult-in, came installed). I don't have a hum problem with that guitar, regardless of how much I move around, regardless of the position of the pickup in relation to the amp. I'm a believer in Seymour Duncan's products, and want to give him the benefit of the doubt, so I've ordered the HC version to see if this might alleviate the hum issue; I'm expecting it probably will, and I'll just return the SC version for a refund from Guitar Center. Not having a volume control on the unit is a bit limiting, but TONE is the main thing, and the tone is BEAUTIFUL! I can always get a volume pedal, or make sure to have amp PA controls within arm's reach. I don't know what kind of strumming some of the reviewers do, but I didn't find the cord to be in the way. AT ALL. It trails away, downward and out of the way; maybe they're not installing it correctly? That's the only thing I can think of. One reviewer commented that it wasn't loud enough without a pre-amp, again I don't see the problem, if plugged into a guitar amp or PA 1/4" phone out; both of those have a VOLUME control. What seems like a possibly bigger issue in certain settings is that since the pickup's in the soundhole, you can't install a soundhole plug, so at a certain volume, you're gonna hit a "ceiling" anyway regarding volume: you're gonna get feedback if your on-stage volume is too high. Just keep the monitor volume as much as possible, and crank it through the Mains. Bottom line: If you stay in one position and don't move around a lot, such as being seated (as a lot of acoustic players do) you probably won't find the hum objectionable, as you can position yourself to nullify that. If you tend to move around a lot while playing, you're gonna have a hum problem, noticeable especially during quieter passages. I'm hoping the hum-cancelling version will take care of that limitation. If it doesn't, I'll probably still go with a Seymour Duncan, and keep the SC ($10 less than HC). Cuz like I said, you can't beat the TONE! And tone is EVERYTHING.

Best Acoustic Guitar Pickup for the Price!!!!!!!!!!

By Arya

from Bangalore

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

I bought this pickup 2 weeks back, I must say I did right by getting it, This pickup Sounds Warm and Bright, And still retains the Acoustic Tone (It doesn't sound Electric) and does it well. I have been looking to get a condensor Mic for recording my acoustic guitar, after checking the prices for the MIC's (In India) I decided to get this pickup, as the microphone prices are exorbitant here. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a nice tone out of a good acoustic guitar pickup.

playing with my woody

By Paul

from Catskill, NY

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

This pick up has a surprisingly crisp and clear sound. the tone is clear and much cleaner than I had anticipated. I really thought I would be returning it for a dual coil but I do not see the need. the only set back to this is the cord gets in the way while playing, but by reversing the woody and having the cord go over and behind the guitar body seems to work well. over all i am very pleased with the performance of this product especially at the price i paid .

Great Pickup

By Craig

from Indiana, USA

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

I've bought some pickups for acoustics in the past and they haven't lived up to my standards at all but this pickup is just amazing. I can't believe how well it sounds. The only con is that the cord gets in the way of strumming but that's with every pickup. Maybe I'll find a way to get it out of the way.

Worth the $

By Ryan

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

In the beginning, I was a little scetchy about the pickup @ first. Once I got it out of the package and in the guitar within minutes, I was pleased as could be. Exactly what I was looking for @ an excellent price. Didn't need to make any adjustments to amp, just plugged in and played for 30 mins. and played an hour and and half gig the next day. Sounded great and and had a good time. Highly recommended!!!

By Doug Hartshorn

from Rogers City Mi.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

This pickup was much more than i expected for the price! It looks high end and the sound is very clear. Easy to install, except for a small sound hole like a backpack guitar. The cord coming off the end i had to get use to. the pros-Great price-looks good sounds great and has enough cord to move around. The down side the cord! thats all i could complain about which is minor. if you want to enjoy your acoustic on your tube amp or other style try it! Recommend highly! Thanks Guitar Center for another great priced item and fast service!

Good Pickup

By T J

from Graham NC

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

It sounds great. The only problem is that it is way quieter than my Les Paul so when I switch I have to adjust my amp volume to keep from playing my Les Paul on 1 or 2 all the time.

Great Sound

By Ron Brown

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

I own a 12 String Martin Acoustic and I've had it for going on 29 years. My first sound hole pickup was a Dean Markley. The Seymour Duncan Woody I just purchased wins in sound hands down. It is a great product and does not deduct from the great sound of my guitar one bit.

Amazing

By Gage Pabst

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

amazing pickup. it just fits right in your guitar. if you plug it in to most electric guitar amps it has some feedback but i plugged it into my PA system and it works amazing no feedback what so ever and crystal clear sound. i tried recording once and there was some feedback but i only used garage band. i haven't tried plugging it in through my PA to the computer but i don't know if it will work i am just kind of experimenting. i highly recommend this pickup and for this price it is just insane!

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

Outstanding product, retains a respectable portion of your guitars natural acoustic timbre. The only thing I would recommend is if you are going to use it full time, would be to cut the cord and hardwire it to an endpin jack. This way the wire is not in your way and cannot get tugged on and damage the guitars soundboard or get in the way of your picking hand.

Sounds great, but not built for guitars with smaller soundhole

    By Alex Page

    from Madison, WI

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

I had this pickup delivered to my local GC store. When it came, I took it home and opened it right away. It looked nice and the instructions were simple enough; there are two slots in the ends of the pickup with a type of foam rubber in them, and to get it on your guitar, you just slide the pickup under the treble side strings and push the pickup underneath and squish the foam in the bass side notch until the treble side of the pickup slips into the soundhole and this foam rubber cozily holds it in place. However, I have a guitar with a smaller soundhole, so to fit this pickup in, I had to remove the foam rubber from the bass side notch, trim a little off, and replace it. Not too hard, but a little more difficult than the instructions made it out to be. Also, as most pickups do, this one requires a preamp to increase the volume to a level that is more than barely audible. Other than the install, however, this is a wonderful product and sounds great.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Woody SC Single-Coil Soundhole Pickup:

I tried a Dean Markley with my 12 stringed Acoustic guitar (Yamaha) and I felt a lot of lose in the first and last string. This means that only the 3th string had good sound. And without trying this pickup I thought that I was going to be the same... But then I pluged this to a nice amp that I had at a friend's house and I fell in love! Good and strong sound, nothing but what it needed in trebles as also had in basses. After that, I pluged this pickup to my Zoom G2.1u and turned off all the effects and I listened to it with a pair of monitor headphones and of course the response was awesome! The best part is that comes with a nice cloth bag. After 5 years in the "Conservatorio Plurinacional de Música" here in La Paz, Bolivia, I've heard a lot of sounds... but this is one of the best ones.

I just got a home studio set up. This has worked wonderful to hook into my condenser and record acoustic guitar and vocals. The pros it fits in both of my acoustic guitars. It gives a good sound, and does wonders for recording. The cons: it doesn't really have a manual so if it breaks/ isn't working correctly there's no resource to troubleshoot.
