Let me just start by saying Seymour Duncan is the best company I've ever dealt with. These pickups are very warm with a lot of growl yet still articulate. They sounded very good in my mahogany bodied maple top guitar. They just didn't have the sound I was personally looking for. That doesn't mean they didn't sound good because they did. Seymour Duncan customer sevice is second to NONE! I called them and descibed the sound I was looking for and they recommended the Hot Rodded set, so I sent these back and exactly one week from the time I sent them in I had my new set. I only had to pay for the shipping to them. I do love the Seymour Duncan sound and these guys have won a customer for life. If your a Dimarzio or EMG fan give Seymour Duncan a try I think you'll be impressed.

I've got a set of these and I believe I paid a premium for the name. I have other Seymour Duncan that are great but the '59s I do not care for. They are too bright and crisp compared to the Washburn set I had replaced. The 59's may be great for Rock but not for blues. I had the tone caps changed twice and still don't get the sound. I will use them in maybe an Epiphone Les Paul. Love the company and quality just don't get the blues out of the 59's.

Simply Awesome!!!

By Ron Goebel

Comments about Seymour Duncan Vintage Blues '59 Humbucker Set:

I am definitely a Seymour Duncan user for life. I first bought a '59 and a JB set back in 1986 for my 1972 Gibson SG Deluxe guitar. What an awesome set for this guitar. About a year ago I put the original '57's back in the SG and put the SD's in my Epiphone Dot. WOW! What a difference that made. The 335 dot sounds outstanding! Well I just bought a set of these '59's for my Les Paul on Sunday and they sound way better than the Burstbuckers that came with the guitar. The BB's sounded muddy with distortion and tinny when clean. Very brittle and sterile sounding. I went with the Vintage Blues set over the Hot Rodded set because I wanted the PAF sound for this guitar. They are very articulate and as they say have that buttery chunky sound. Great strong lows, nice mids and highs. Very balanced across the whole spectrum of sound. Clear weather clean or distorted. Absolutely beautiful pickups. Seymour Duncan pickups have always been my go to choice since that 1st set I purchased in 1986. I have had numerous guitars in the past and only named a few here that I have put SD's in. A few of my other guitars also got replaced with SD's. Try them and you will never go back. These definately sound good in my studio and can't wait to play them out next weekend. Great job again Seymour Duncan! Keep it up!

Very nice and good value

Comments about Seymour Duncan Vintage Blues '59 Humbucker Set:

I just put a set of these in my old Epiphone Les Paul that I bought new back in 1996. Very nice upgrade in tone. The stock pickups were OK but I had been on a run upgrading pickups in other guitars with the likes of Lollar, Dominger and a couple of custom-wound Eastgroves. All great pickups for sure but these Vintage Blues pickups are excellent and sound just like what you would expect- warm, fat bell-like womany tones to muscled beefy overdrive. These are NOT high gain or for metal. These are for blues and jazz and do classic rock just fine. The neck pickup was the biggest surprise as most neck humbuckers to me tend to sound muddy and dark with little note definition. Playing on the neck pickup is a joy! Every note comes through clear and clean and sooooo sweet! Great for Alman Brothers type slide work. These are great pickups for this style of music and the price is very reasonable for the great sound they produce. My first Seymour Duncan set and I'm very, very pleased with them!

Great pickups!!!!!

Comments about Seymour Duncan Vintage Blues '59 Humbucker Set:

I've got a set of these and a set of hot rodded and they're both great sets. The 59 set is more vintage sounding, great for blues and classic rock. I put these and the hot rod sets in my epiphone les pauls, so if your looking to improve your affordable guitar get some duncans.

Awesome!

By John Palasek

from Yaphank, NY

Comments about Seymour Duncan Vintage Blues '59 Humbucker Set:

I just installed a set of these '59's in my Epi LP Custom and all I can say is: "Wow!" The stock p'ups were OK and some friends who played my guitar said they sounded great but I always thought they were too thin and harsh and these '59's proved that in spades. The bottom end is stronger than before and the top end is more defined but I notice it most in the midrange. I love to play blues and jazz and the "scooped mids" of these '59's are spot on in that they define the midrange but don't do so at the expense of the highs and lows. Everything sounds balanced now and the "thinness" on the first and second strings is gone. Now they cut through nicely and don't sound "twangy" like they used to. Originally, I was trying to decide between between the '59's and the Hot Rods, but after comparing the two at Seymour Duncan's website, I was sold on the '59's. The SH-1's are balanced and are moderate output while the Hot Rods (SH-4 & SH-2) were high output and DID sound hot (for my taste) compared to the 59's. I am so glad I went with the 59's because they give me exactly the sound I was looking for and are SO much better than what I had before!

Love These Pickups!

By John Palasek

from NY

Comments about Seymour Duncan Vintage Blues '59 Humbucker Set:

I finally got around to changing the pups in my Epi LP Custom and man, am I glad I did! These pickups are Awesome! The stock pups were actually not so bad and many who have heard or played my guitar have said as much. But to me they were to thin and had way too much midrange for my taste. I play Blues, Jazz, some Funk with a touch of Classic Rock now and then and I wanted a warmer tone with less mids and these 59's are perfect! I actually went to the Seymour Duncan website and used their comparison gadgets where I could hear the basic differences between various pickups. I wasn't sure about whether I wanted to go with the 59's or with a Hot Rodded set. But when I compared them side-by-side on the website, I could instantly tell that the Hot Rods would be a bit too brassy for me and so I went with the 59's. The "scooped mids" are exactly what I was looking for because now my guitar sounds much more balanced. The bass is more solid and the treble is clearer while the mids are smooth in between. In "crunch mode", these pups really offer that classic Gibson sound - lots of grit, great definition but not overpowering or ear-splitting. The 59's may not be an ideal choice for shredding Metal, but for what I want they're ideal. The only knock on these pups is that the neck pickup can sound a bit "boomy" when played clean, but that's easily fixed with a few minor tone adjustments and then it's perfect and crystal clear. All in all, I'd highly recommend these Seymour Duncan 59's to anyone looking for a classic sound with a rich and balanced tone.

Just the right sound

Comments about Seymour Duncan Vintage Blues '59 Humbucker Set:

I bought these pickups as an upgrade to my 2015 Epiphine SG Special. I used them at a Blues jam in New Orleans with no effects on the guitar at all. The tone I got out of them was nothing short of incredible. It's a different guitar now, and exactly what I'm looking for. Worth every penny.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Vintage Blues '59 Humbucker Set:

Bought for a 335 12 stringer. Also spent the money on original Seymor Duncan pickup covers online. They are the only covers that work right. Tech had to hot wax them. But the59ers are a great match for this 335 guitar for me. Gibsons are too expensive. These are the next best thing for much less costs. I had a Epi Joe Pass with these in them too. Remember, change the pots too to USA brand.
