Overview

The Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro is a warm, moderate-output neck position humbucker that's great for jazz, blues, classic rock and slide. Designed for brighter toned instruments the Alnico II Pro works especially well with maple and ebony fingerboards. Also works great with hollow and semi-hollow body guitars.

The Alnico 2 magnet and moderate windings yield a warm, sweet tone with more natural string vibration for great sustain. Classic rock players who get their distortion from the amp rather than the pickup love the APH-1. It allows them to back off the crunch and get beautiful clean tones with softer attack. Compared to the '59, the Alnico II Pro has a rounder sound with a spongier bass response. Comes with four-conductor hookup cable and no logo.

Often the APH-1 is used in both neck and bridge positions. Or, in the neck with a higher output pickup like an SH-11 Custom Custom or SHPG-1b Pearly Gates for heavier rock or hotter blues sounds from the bridge position.

Players using Alnico II Pro humbuckers:
Slash - Velvet Revolver & Guns 'N Roses (neck & bridge)
Michael Wilton - Queensryche (bridge)
Jeff Tamelier - Tower of Power (neck)
Tim Mahoney - 311 (neck)
Troy Van Leeuwen - Queens of the Stone Age (neck)

Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro Neck Humbucker:

You will instantly notice that this is what a neck pickup is supposed to sound like. I play classic rock all the way up to today's pop, rock, metal, funk and soul and this boy can handle it all. It is paired with either a Dunacn Custom or a 59/custom Hybrid and they couldn't match up any better. Beautiful clean sound that rivals a single coil.... Great for solos, doesn't sound tubby and you can actually use your tone knob and get some great Warren Haynes type sounds. I've been playing for over 25 years and this is hands down the best pickup you can put in the neck position of your guitar.

Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro Neck Humbucker:

I swapped this with the Probucker in my Epi LP Standard. It's a beautiful sounding pickup. Crystal clear sound, awesome sustain, and it's got that warm, singing tone that I was really shooting for. I did think it might be just a bit hotter than it is, but it's a minor thing. Clean tones are warm and bright, and you can hear every note. You can really get some beautiful and soaring tones out of this pickup, I'd highly recommend it.

Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro Neck Humbucker:

Very pleased and very impressed with this pickup! It's the third one I've bought and the first one in the black style (other two I've bought are nickel). I put this in a Jackson Dinky Pro with a Dimebucker in the bridge and it sounds great, lots of lows and mids. Very good pickup for hard rock and metal music.

Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro Neck Humbucker:

Got this one for the neck to go with the more powerful Custom 5 on the bridge, thinking about making it versatile. I use the neck pickup for solos constantly at clean, low and high gains. Perfect tone. Amazing match for my Custom 5 on the bridge. I get sweet clean tones and clarity with the volume rolled up down or down, as well as interesting colors out the tone knob. Nice when used in tap mode, but definitely better as a Humbucker. I'll definitely buy it again as a neck Humbucker. Wish there were more options for finishes, like zebra.

Sounds excellent. Long-time fan of the 59 but this may replace it. Sounds great split with the single in middle.

Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro Neck Humbucker:

I installed this pickup in the neck, and it delivers a warm tone that also delivers great clarity over the stock pickups. I combined it with a Seymour Duncan Pearly gates at the bridge and together they are an amazing combination. It's a must for anyone playing Rock, Metal or Blues, truly a great effective mod to any guitar.

This pickup produces a thick, warm sound, but still produces lots of sparkle on the highs. Rolling off the tone produces a warmer, more muted sound, but it doesn't get "muddy". Installation was a breeze. I would heartily recommend this pickup for guitarists looking for a great jazz or blues tone in the neck.

Comments about Seymour Duncan APH-1n Alnico II Pro Neck Humbucker:

Fantastic. Very sweet tone. Clean, this pickup is a beautiful thing to hear. Very natural sounding and well balanced. Distorted this thing shines just as bright. The velvety crunch that you hear when playing multiple distorted notes is awesome.

I had my guitar set up to split the coil on this pickup. Using one of the tone pots on my LP (the other tone pot now controls for both pickups), I am able to blend in and out the use of the second coil. This opens up a lot of tonal possibilities. Because of how well-balanced this pickup is, it sounds fantastic as a single coil pickup. The loss of one of the coils definitely makes it a bit quieter, but the sound it produces is very good in quality. I would recommend giving this a shot to anyone who has one of these.

Versatile, and awesome. Great Pickup. I have yet to think of a downside. Just know that the Alnico II magnet has a little different response than Alnico V. If you are considering this pickup, watch a couple youtube videos or go to Seymour Duncan's website and listen to the differences. They're perfect for me!
