This set piece from this year's ARD competition combines the tradition in the harp repertoire of harking back to Baroque elements of form and style with selective use of sophisticated contemporary techniques. The most notable of these are the use of a bow to play the melody of the Aria, while the accompaniment is plucked in the usual way, and the extremely complex Fughetta cromatica, where the strings are retuned to make it possible to play unusual combinations of intervals.
