As a self-taught Southpaw playing for many years, I have found very few guitar manufacturers that have built a lefty with such high quality, feel and response as Schecter has put into the C-1 Hellraiser. I have owned several Strats, Ibanez, BC Rich & Washburns that are no match for what Schecter has put on the table. Some of the attributes & features that set this axe apart is Killer Sustain, Neck Accessibility, Quality Woods, Multiple Coil Taps and drop dead looks! I am really impressed with the locking tuners and string-through design. The EMG's are top-notch and extremely low noise too. Overall, I have to say this Schecter has surpassed even the playability and tonal quality of my Custom built Washburn G-70V that I have played for 25 years. I highly recommend this instrument to any Southpaw and the right-hand versions for all of you "backwards" playing musicians!

  • Not disappointed

First off, let me say that this is the first time in my life that I've bothered to write a review - this guitar is that good that it deserves my time writing one. Finding a quality lefty guitar is painful, as anyone reading this can probably attest. This time around money was no object, I was willing to go up to about 2G for the right guitar. I may not be an expert but I'm not an idiot, and I did some research. Fit + Finish: Schecter went all out to make this a pretty guitar. I got the black cherry version. The abalone inlay around the border, even around the headstock, the cross inlays on the frets, the neck-thru body design - all details to take this guitar to the next level. I get compliments on how this guitar looks from laymen as well as experienced players with high-end guitars themselves. This is a beautiful piece of artwork these guys created. Sound: Also impressive, very versatile. The EMGs (81 and 89) perform. Look them up. I was worried I might not get good clean sound from this but I was very wrong, this machine surprisingly excels in a good clean tone. It goes both thick like a LesPaul and crisp like a good Fender, 2 of the alternatives I was looking into. For the heavier stuff, well, it's called the Hellraiser, right? Value: Like I said, $ was no real issue here. I almost bought the LesPaul Studio, but IMO this looked better, was more versatile, is easier to play (neck-thru, thinner neck, lighter), has the same wood too (mahogany body/neck, rosewood fingerboard), and was half the price. Sold.

  • The best left handed guitar for intermediate and above levels

As reviewed by Eric on 6/25/2010

Ok ive had this guitar for about 3 weeks now, and i gotta say this is one great machine. The EMG's sound brutal and even better when mixed with distortion pedals and a great tube amp. the finish is none less amazing. EXCEPT geta non scratch rag when you clean anything else will damage your quilted maple top. Be sure to clean the strings and pickups before you play to get the best sound. the only thing i have to say is my bridge pick sways from side to side but thats very fixable, and other than that everything is stable and beautiful. The action comes very low and you can slide all up and down the fretboard it is very smooth and getting to the 24 fret is very easy and im very impressed with this guitar. But may i mind you if you get this youll need to buy top quality gear for the guitar. low quality gears does not go with top shelf guitars.
