I ordered these used from my local guitar center but nonetheless, still proud of my purchase. When I first got these, I was baffled by the heavy weight (about 8 lbs) and they were darker than my old hi hats (Meinl HCS/b8 alloy) but I eventually got used to it. These are HEAVY cymbals. They are full, washy, tight, crisp, poppy and they do amazing in live and studio settings. Highly recommend these to any drummer.
These Sabian AAX Stage Hats are a little heavy for my liking. Although very articulate, it is often difficult to get a light tone for jazz and funk styles. Best suited for rock, metal, and hip-hop, these hats have enough attack to cut through the deep end bass and the whiny guitar of these heavier styles. They do tend to be drowned out by cymbals with a similar heavy frequency such as the bigger ride cymbals (22ۡݕ_ and up). They also sound, in my opinion, very trashy, reminiscent of 90ۡs grunge if too tight when played open. Overall, I would buy these again as they work well for my styles of music, I tend to do my stick articulations on the crashes and rides rather than the hats, but if Jazz or lighter styles are your area of expertise I would move up to the AAX Studio hats instead. For the price, these hats are unbeatable in their varied tonal usage.
