I purchased this case as a gift for my son. It was put to the test days after when his band mates bass amp fell on it. His SG survived unscathed. The case is very lightweight, durable and my son's SG fits snugly. He is very happy with it.
I purchased this case for my new Epiphone G-400. It is a perfect fit with no looseness at all. Latches are secure and easy to operate. There is no perceptable odor as some others have noted. I am sure this case will last forever given my application. When I contacted SKB regarding registration they said to identifty myself as the original owner and all would be good. Don't expect to have any problems but is is nice to know they are friendly and responsive. Other reviewers also influenced my purchase. Don't think you can beat this item anywhere either.
My Gibson SG fits snugly in this SKB case. It is sturdily built, provides good neck support and appears built to last a long time. Although it is not lightweight, it is not heavy either. It is ideally designed to protect an SG guitar. I already had an SKB case for my American Fender Stratocaster, so I knew they made really good cases. Although the large clasps look a bit clunky, they close easily and securely and meet international TSA airline checking requirements. I expect with it's durable design that it will easily last my lifetime. All in all a good value at the Guitar Center price.
Im just taking the time to write this so that others will have an informed overview of what people like myself think about this product. To begin with this is really a nice case. The 4 stars are for these reasons, the case does,nt line up in the back as well as you would like it to, it does snap into place once you close it and move it around a little. i have a EC 1000 deluxe and i have to put a cloth at the top of my guitar to keep it snug, so it,s fair to say MY guitar is a little small for this case! thats not the cases fault, that was my fault for not paying closer attention. this case is well built with nice clasps and lock, it has an inner ledge so you don,t have to worry about water getting in. I would have no problem putting this case on a plane, it,s built that well! this case has weight to it! check it out there selling it cheaper than what i paid for it, you will like it !!!
I purchased an Epiphone SG for my son and needed to quickly get a case for it. Although I like the gig-bag options the reality is that with six kids and the fact that we're heading overseas to live I needed something with a lot more protection and that was ATA approved. Thus one of the only options out there for under $200.00 was this SKB case or the Gator ATA case. I opted for this SKB simply based upon the fact that I couldn?t find a Gator one to try out. As suggested in the title of this review, the SKB is solid construction and provides great protection for the guitar. Furthermore it comes with ATA approved locks which we?ll need as we head overseas. With all of this said however, one must realize that it is a generic case for all makes and models of SG styled guitars. Thus, in our case, the Epiphone SG-400 didn?t fit perfectly within it (i.e. the curves were a bit off). Thinking it may have just been the case that we got, we went back to GC and tried out every SKB SG case they had and they all fit the same way. The good thing however is that it does fit snuggly into the case (no need to force it in) and it won?t move during transport. After 2 months of owning it, the case is working out beautifully and we don?t anticipate any issues with it around town or via air travel.
I bought the case the same time as the SG which was only a few weeks ago. However, I believe it was an excellent decision. Form fitted to the guitar, and of sturdy construction, I am impressed! Much better quality than the generic hard shell cases I've owned previously. If you value your SG, seriously consider this case. It has a life time warranty (for original owner) so there isn't much risk involved.
SKB Hard Case Products are fully warranted against defects in materials and craftsmanship for the life of the case to the original owner. (Direct Quote from SKB web site.) Case construction, form and fit well worth the money. Had a SG SKB model case, developed cracks in the outer shell after 3yrs of normal use. Returned the case to SKB for 13 dollars shipping, received a new updated case version replacement.
Just purchased this case to protect my '61 SG. It seems like a good solid case with good clasps and a good lock with real keys, not those cheap suitcase keys. Yes, it does have an odor, but what can you expect from Industrial plastics? I would recomend this case to any SG owner.
This case performs as advertised, and mine actually smelled like fresh cut spring flowers so I don't know what everyone is talking about down below. The latches are super simple to operate (you don't have to hook them over anything) they just click open and closed. It's got a decent lock on it, which is more than I can say for my roadrunner case, and it's lighter than I expected. Also I didn't see it mentioned anywhere but it has a small compartment in the neck, adequate to fit my strap, tuner, slide, and capo. Quality product overall, and if you bought a several hundred dollar guitar spring for a nice case. My last case put unnecessary stress on the headstock which may have contributed to a crack forming in it. This case, which was designed specifically for the SG makes sure to support the entire neck and suspend the headstock.
This case is very protective. After having it for a year, it has held out pretty well. The smell of the case does go away after a while, and you also get used to it after a while too. The only bad thing is that the bottom strap holding the two sides of the case broke off very quickly, but that didnt really do anything bad for the case I guess. I would buy it if you have/are getting an SG.
