I bought this stand a few years ago. For a while, I had an old Korg T1 (85 lbs) on the bottom tier, and my Korg M3-61 on top, and the stand just grinned and asked for more. I also like it because I'm a tall guy, and other X-stands I've ever used all felt too short. The only beefs I have with the stand is that the upper tier is actually too high. I remedied the problem by cutting about two inches out of the upper tier's vertical bars, welding them back together and repainting them.

I owned this stand for about four years and just started using the upper tier about a year ago when I bought a second keyboard. Two weeks ago, in the middle of a gig, one of the hand-tightened bolts securing one of the upper tier arms sheared off in the middle of playing a song, and my upper keyboard (Nord) crashed down on my Yamaha. Luckily, neither keyboard was damaged, and I was able to finish out my gig with the help of a lot of duck tape. Guitar Center informed me that they don't carry replacement bolts for this unit. So beware, this model works well as designed, but if you use it frequently, you might want to devise some sort of backup brace for your upper board in the event that one of the bolts fails from heavy use and/or over-tightening.

Cheaply made

By Thom

Comments about Proline PL402 2-Tier Double X-Braced Keyboard Stand:

The stand has some issues. The "rubber" grips to hold your synth are actually plastic. Slippery plastic. My synth slips and slides all over the stand while playing. The top tier is lopsided. Even at my best I cant seem to line the two arms up so that my synth on top isn't crooked.and it too has slippery plastic "grips".

    sturdy and worth the $

    By matt harnick

Comments about Proline PL402 2-Tier Double X-Braced Keyboard Stand:

I owned a Fantom X8 which is really, really heavy - plus an Alesis Fusion 8HD...so I needed a stand which could really accommodate that kind of weight. I love this stand because it's priced right and really sturdy. I ended up selling the X8 because it was so heavy- and moved down into the X7...but even so this is a fantastic stand for the money. I'm about to buy a second one to leave at our rehearsal space, and so I don't have to constantly keep mine coming back and forth with me. The one which was available to me at the rehearsal space was just really flimsy - it's your more typical x-stand with a second tier added on. I wail away on the keys and it starts rocking back and forth with me. Who wants that? Not I. But that's what you get with an inferior product. Great job, Proline.

Comments about Proline PL402 2-Tier Double X-Braced Keyboard Stand:

Easily the best keyboard stand I've used. I trusted it for years with my Roland RD-700, a fairly heavy and expensive keyboard as well as an Oxygen midi controller on the top rack. Completely adjustable, it holds both keyboards and doesn't budge one bit. If your keyboard is lightweight, you may want to secure it from sliding with some velcro strips or something, but that's going to happen with lightweight keyboards on almost any keyboard stand. Even rubber pads only do so much to prevent sliding if the keyboard is light enough and the music is intense enough. If you need a stable, durable, reliable keyboard stand (who doesn't?) then get this stand - it's easily one of the best. You can fold the top rack out of sight if you don't need it. Very reasonably priced. I've recommended this stand to friends, fellow musicians, schools, my students and local theaters.

Cheap and sturdy, but the upper tier could be better

      By Evangelos

      from Athens, Greece

Comments about Proline PL402 2-Tier Double X-Braced Keyboard Stand:

This is a very sturdy base. Each tier can hold with ease 20kgr or maybe more and the keyboards feel quite secure. ?he price is pretty good. The only reason I can't give a 5 star review is because of the bending on the upper tier, if you want the claviers to be close to each other. I believe they could have avoided it, if they had changed the design a little bit. This stand is designed mainly for those who play upstanding (I don't know if I use the correct word, I mean not sitting on a bench). If you are sitting on a bench while you are playing (just like me), it might be a little tricky to find the best position for the upper tier, if you can find it. In this case you should better check it in a local store before you buy it.

Comments about Proline PL402 2-Tier Double X-Braced Keyboard Stand:

I bought one of these stands a couple of years ago. The upper tier was crooked because the locking discs were not welded properly. I made some modifications to make it work, and also cut two inches out of the upper tier because it was just too tall to be useful. A month or so ago, I bought a new keyboard to add to my setup, which meant that I needed a second stand. Deciding that I wanted both stands to match, I bought another pair of these from my local Guitar Center. I got them home and discovered that the upper tiers on both stands were also crooked. Epic fail.

Comments about Proline PL402 2-Tier Double X-Braced Keyboard Stand:

Let me sum it up - "You get what you paid for" 1) the grips are plastic and your keyboard slips and slides all over the place on them. 2) second tier is not level because the welds are so cheap and quick.

              Get's the job done!

Comments about Proline PL402 2-Tier Double X-Braced Keyboard Stand:

The ProLine PL-402 is most certainly a fine keyboard stand. It's pretty portable and folds up really nice. It's extremely sturdy, which is most important. It takes a minute to get used to the setup of it, lots of tightening is needed. But, it holds firm once in place. The only issue is that the second tier is a tad uneven. This really only affects you if you have a smaller keyboard, like a 37-key synth or something. Larger keyboards will balance very, very nicely. Personally, I have a keyboard workstation setup on the bottom and a flat board with my laptop, beat pad, and mixer on top. It soundly holds all my programming gear as well as cables and acoustics (tambourine, etc.) I play keys in a pop-punk band in Las Vegas. I have a separate stand for my MicroKorg synth, which I also use have a strap for.

              Could use some changes

              from Aurora,CO

Comments about Proline PL402 2-Tier Double X-Braced Keyboard Stand:

I purchased this stand to hold a Casio Previa PX-350 and my laptop. I have a single bar stand that I had for my Roland Juno-G, and that was unstable even for that. Tried the PX-350 on it and decided that I needed to protect my investment better so I went back to Guitar Center to buy a better stand. I ended up with the Proline Double X tier stand. This stand is stable! It barely moves on a solid surface. I am confident my full size board will not tip over. However I do have a few of gripes. The pads that the board sits on are made of plastic and allows lots of sliding. This was remedied with tennis raquet handle tape wrapping after removing the plastic ones.(More Money) The top tier was not as ajustable as I would have liked, I use it for my laptop and was not able to have a slight tilt forward while lowering it without the arms being to close together and being at a funky twisted angle. The top does adjust in hight, and the angle adjusts, but the combination of the two is just wierd. I ended up keeping it flat and using a small piece of plywood to hold my laptop and mouse. It would have been nice to twist the support arms as you raise and lower and tilt. Overall I like it for my purpose and am satisfied. It doesn't move after its been set up so no comment on gigging with it.

Poor Quality - Upper Tier Crooked for me too

              By J Mark

              from Alpharetta, GA

Comments about Proline PL402 2-Tier Double X-Braced Keyboard Stand:

I ended up buying this after the PL400 didn't fit my existing X stand. First, the lowest adjustment setting is too high for a normal sitting position. Other stands will adjust lower for a typical bench or chair. This is about 3-4" too high. Second, the upper tier arms were not aligned. No matter what you do, you cannot get them parallel. It appeared that the adjustment tooth wheels were welded out of alignment with no consideration for symmetry. Third, the "lip" on the upper tubes, to keep your keyboard from sliding off, is not adjustable. It was either too long (pointing up), or not long enough (angled) to fit my Yamaha work station. I am now going to have to make a THIRD trip to GC to get my money back.
