I bought this string winder for my 13 year old granddaughter, who's learning to play bass. One of the tasks is learning how to change the strings. I though this would make it easier for her with her small hands, and not so strong fingers, etc. And it did. The winder works OK, but it kept falling off the tuning peg key, not sure what could be done about it, but even when I tried it, i had a tough time keeping it on. (reason for 4 stars instead of 5) The string clipper worked great, she was able to cut through the heavy bass string ends w/o a problem.

The difference between changing your strings without a winder and with a winder is night and day. I use this for my bass and it works flawlessly. It also has a cutter which works extremely well. And this one is super cheap too!

The Planet Waves Pro String Winder And Cutter was one of the best additions i ever made to my array of guitar and bass tools. This tool can cut through even the thickest of those bass strings and is built to last. I bring it on stage with me werever i go and i will never go to a gig without it! It has a great tuning tool which will tune knobs as big as fenders tuning keys! Its built to be in tough situations when the average wire cutter just dosent quite "cut" it. I reccomend buying this tool, you will NOT be dissapointed.

This string winder is the only one I've found to be big enough to fit around my large Bass tuners. Most of the other guitar string winders are much too small and can't be used. This thing is sturdy and makes winding strings as well as clipping the ends so much easier and faster. Pick one up today.

As a new bassist, the Planet Waves Bass Pro String Winder/Cutter (Item #DP0002B) was the first tool I grabbed! It cuts your old strings off, stretches and winds your new strings, and trims off the excess. It's the perfect addition to the bass player's gigbag!
