Surprised
When I first saw the price tag, I had to take a second glance. Peavey's 6505 line has always been very reasonably priced, but this seemed too low. I realized it's made in China and that's why it's priced so generously, but I decided to take a chance and buy it anyway. So far it's been pretty good. I don't really gig much at the moment, but I still crank it when I can. The best part is at 60 watts, it can do low volumes and high volumes. If you buy this expecting thunderous power when you're only using it as a 112, you might be disappointed. It's definitely the beefiest, thickest sounding 112 I've heard, but it's not a 212 and certainly not a 412. However, you have the option to add another cab, and I take advantage of that. WOW, now we're talking! I use a Mesa Rec 212 and they compliment each other nicely. Thick, full sound with plenty of crunchy midrange, even when it's low. One thing to note is that the amp isn't noisy at all. I feared I'd have to buy a noise gate, but that isn't the case. However, to bring the most out of this amp, I use an MXR 10 band EQ. The one negative I have, is that it's difficult to manage the notorious high end, "sizzle," that this amp produces. I use a medium amount of gain so it's not too bad, but if the gain goes above six and drifts into metal territory, it's really obnoxious. I haven't tried new tubes, but no matter what speakers or pickups I use, it's there. Despite that, I'm giving this amp 5 stars...but that's because there's no 4.5 star option. It's been a great amp, and as long as the craftsmanship holds up, I'll be keeping it around for a while.

I purchased this amp for the same reasons everyone else did-I was absolutely not shocked by the crushing, high gain power this delivered. What I was shocked by was the quality. From a Company that produced amps for Misha Mansoor and Eddie Van Halen, I would expect quality. The first one I bought used, so it could have been a fluke when the signal dropped to about a fifth of the original power. When I exchanged it for a new one, it worked for about two and a half months, and I loved it, until it died. The volume dropped after a buzz, and the unit lost power. It's now been sitting at a certified tech's shop for a month, a week, and a day, and he's baffled. For sound, this amp is awesome, as long as it works-take the gamble if you dare. It seems like I may be the exception rather than the rule, but it seems as though this particular model has a number of issues that more expensive models do not have. I'll update and change if/when the problem gets rectified (no pun intended).

I bought this amp. It sound amazing out of the box. First thing I did was replace speaker with a vintage 30. That made it more amazing. Few week later I turned into a head. I then built a custom cabinet. Now its sounds like if god played guitar.

The amp has great high gain for the type of music that I play, but the clean channel could be a lot better. It is a nice size. Looks aesthetically pleasing.

Although this amp is made over-seas,...it has been very reliable, even though I bought it used a couple years ago, I haven't needed to get it serviced yet.....When I put a 150w Eminence speaker in it, it greatly improved the sound. ( for those beginners, your not going to get a top of the line speaker in any amp that sells for less than $1000 dollars,......I also have a Blackstar HT 20 I upgraded to a Greenback,...it now sounds like a $1000 amp also, Warehouse speakers don't cost that much and they are a big improvement from the $20 or $30 Chinese speaker that comes with the amp ) If you don't want to upgrade the speaker get a $1500 Engle.

I am not as experienced with amps as i am with guitars but i can safely say this amp is great. Many people seem to think that the amp doesnt do clean tones well but if you tune the amp and the guitar right this thing sounds great clean. If you dont need any distortion then you might want to look at another amp because that is where this thing truely excels. When you crank up the overdrive this thing is very loud and has a great low end.

You cant go wrong here folks.. My first amp was a peavey back in the day.. Ive been playing on a Ampeg for the last 20 years and needed a new amp... I originally bought the Marshall DSL40c 40w, but just couldn't get the right sound out of it so I returned it back to guitar center hassell free.. Tried the Peavey 6505 combo and fell in love instantly....Price was a little high but with 15% off from guitar center I just couldn't let it go.

Should I use a distortion pedal on this or do it have its own distortion
It will have it's own overdrive setting, but I would recommend getting a footswitch to switch between the two channels.
