My Piccolo experience

By TheTOOLguy

from glen burnie, MD

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

This drum is the ultimate in snare drums. It's small build is great for travel and easy set up, while its attack can be tuned from a high and tight attack, to a low, punk slam. I've been playing the piccolo for two years and when I took it into the studio to record a demo with my band; our producer heard it during soundcheck and said "what the hell was that?" he was blown away by the sound and quality. I highly recommend this drum for beginners and pro's alike.

Awesome sounding Pearl Piccolo snare!

By DrumHead89

from Kent, WA

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

If you're looking for a high pitched-crisp & bright sounding snare sound ala Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson that cuts to the bone, then this is it! Truly an awesome sounding piccolo snare. I replaced the stock Remo Coated Ambassador (Taiwan) head with a USA Remo Coated Ambassador head which I use on all of my snare drums. The stock head doesn't sound bad at all but I just got to have a "real" Remo head on there. I tuned it nice and tight to 89 on the Drum Dial & this little beast screams! Rimshots sounds like a handgun firing! The snare throwoff is smooth & very sensitive & just needs little turns of the strainer to acheive the right crispness on the snare wires. I usually keep my snare wires nice & tight. I'm enjoying every minute of playing this great snare. The Pearl 3 x 13 Piccolo Steel Snare drum is verstile enough for any style of music. Pearl quality, looks & sound with a price that won't bust your wallet. It can't get any better than this. Thanks to Matt at Tukwila, WA Guitar Center for being so helpful.

By God's Drummer 718

from Brooklyn, N.Y.

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I am a drummer who mainly plays in churches and gigs alot, i travel wit this puppy and i love the pop it gives, for that classic gospel sound, and then when i gig with r&b acts it accents the breaks so much more with a great crash, this is the snare to have especially since its compact and can fit in a good case, easy to manage and its sound is great for the value of the dollar its worth..def pick it up and keep it in ur collection

best Piccolo for the money

By Thomas

from plainville, MA

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I was looking for some thingdiffrent and I decided id try one fo these out and man was I impressed I use this snare all the time. The steel shell piccolo is very durable and sounds amazing wiht its powerfull hit and its great pop. The only thing about this snare is it is not the loudest but its not suposed to be seeing as its a piccolo. Over all I recomend this product to any one who wants to be able to play intricut snare rolls and get a great product for under 150 dollars

That Masculant Sound

By churchdrummerboy14

from Detroit

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I also play in a church setting...and every sunday I get compliments about how good the drums. I've put a Remo Coated Ambassador head on it, and it just gives all the songs I play that extra pop. I love it

AWESOME!

By Anthony

from Port Jefferson Sta, NY

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I bought this the other day and it rocks! I used to be adamant about using a piccolo snare rather than a 6.5 inch snare. I'm so happy I made the switch! I bought this drum to use as a tight popping snare for an R&B project i've been involved in. This is now my new rock snare! I will be buying another tomorrow to tune higher for the project I bought it for. This is a must have. Very versatile for any style. I am an aqaurian guy but I have an Evans reverse dot on it and it cracks beautifully. It has a little ring but that's just the head. With a thicker head on it, it could be that classic 80's rock snare if you wanted it to be. Also, it is solid! Not some cheap toy. I was shocked at the price! It sounds like a 400 dollar snare even with stock heads!

A good first drum

By Kristen22

from University Place,WA

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I just started playing less than a year ago, but I knew I was going to need a high quality drum. Not only is the Piccolo not very expensive it makes a nice sound when played. I only use this drum to practice, but I would be willing to use it for a concert because of the tone quality.

Exactly what I was looking for

By Lynne

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I had been playing a 14x5.5 Ludwig snare for years. But I was never able to get the sound out of it I was looking for. I tried different heads, different dampening, and different head tightening strategies, but I just could not achieve the sound I was looking for. I like a sharp, authoritative crack, and then a nice resonant ring - think Questlove from The Roots. So I did my research and talked to a few stickmen about snare drums. Eventually I made the drop on this snare. HOLY SMOKES! Now THAT'S the sound I've been trying to capture for years - high, sharp, authoritative, and with a pleasant sustaining ring when struck close to the rim. And when I used the drum for combo crashes on my 6" splash, the effect is wonderful - think early Stu Copeland. And the rimshot will break your neck, it's so crisp! Now, to be fair, not all drummers want a snare that sounds like this. If you're looking for something deep and throaty, this is definitely NOT the snare for you. Some drummers will put two snares in their kits, but I personally am not a fan of that approach. But if you're thinking about switching to a piccolo snare or adding a piccolo snare to your set-up, you won't go wrong with the Pearl Piccolo 13x3 Steel Snare Drum.

Awesome Snare!

By Hallock

from Buffalo

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I started playing drums about 8 months ago. I am self taught, so I'm inexperienced, but pretty good. I wanted a poppy snare, because I'm a huge fan of Slipknot, but also a well quality made one. The rest of my set is deeper sounding, wanted to get it like Danny Carey, and this snare just mixes it up. Awesome price, great quality! Great for anyone who wants something poppy, for cheap, and from a great name

This is the snare to get!!!

By DrummerMan

from New Jersey

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I just bought this snare yesterday, and this is the best one i have ever heard. I took it out of the box, tuned it up, and its amazing. Nice remo heads, great quality and price. I would choose this piccolo over any other one out there! If your looking for a good cheap snare, this is the one to get.

Great drum with great pop, for great price.

By RtR's drummer

from Topton, PA

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I got this a few years ago, and always drift back to it when using my kit. I have two other snares, but I just love the sound this one gives. The pop is sharp and explosive, and its nice and small to throw on your set. It also looks good on just about everything. Not much else to say really, but I'm the kind of person who doesn't even look at my wallet, and I was more than happy to hand over my money for this. You want something that not only sounds good, but that can always sound the same after years of use. This is it.

Pearl Piccolo Rocks

By Chris

from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

This snare is awesome, and great price for a quality drum. I use it to play metal with lots of blast beats, and this drum cuts through everything with a great pop and crack. I would recommend for anyone that wants this drum to cut through loud and noisy guitars.

I love this snare.

By Griffin

from Utah

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

My parents first bought this snare before I had a drum set. And then I started listening to others snare drums and none of them compared to the piccolo. I love the higher sound of the snare then lower snares. I play on another drum set for my church and it's a Tama Imperialstar set. Great set I love it, but I still love the snare drum I have at my house. Great snare I love it.

Best Snare For The Price - Great Sound!

By Chuck Akeley

from Albuquerque, NM

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I've used this snare drum for about two years as my primary. It is solid, well-built and with a replacement Evans HD (dry) batter head, it sounds like a million bucks. Crisp and bright, yet still has a remarkably full sound for such a small (3") drum. The 13" size fits more comfortably for me between the legs than a 14" model (allowing more of a "forward" setup with the hi hat, etc.). If you prefer the sound of a piccolo snare - I doubt you will be disappointed in this drum, despite the reasonable price.

Amazing

By rhcp lover

from Charlotte, NC

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

This snare is amazing! I don't mean to gush and tell you that its the best thing ever, but it is a really good snare for the money. I had a crapy Ludwig accent combo snare, and i was planning to use the piccolo as an extra. However, it sounded so good that i decided to use it as my main snare. My band loves it, and it provides a good pop, and also picks up ghost notes very very well. If youre looking for a good snare for a decent price, def look into this!

No one plays metal with this? why not?

By Eric

from Newport News, Va

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

The description says blues and jazz and such but i play metal on this thing and it blends well. It has really tight bright sound to it. Because of this, it is really easy to hear every last stroke and whoever said it was quiet?! this thing is loud as can be. The rim shots may as well be deadly because they are ear shattering. Everytime i play a rim shot and someone without ear protection is around you can see the pain in their face! Great snare and it is really cheap. May replace later in my playing career but this is a great snare for me right now worth every penny.

this snare is a steal!!!!

By allen

from san antonio tx

Comments about Pearl Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

this is one of the best investments i ever made, the heads are great especially the resonant but im more of a remo controlled sound guy for batter and it pops out, the steel is solid as a rock so theres no need to wory about warping, the lugs are as smooth as can be, but the sound is so pro like, whitout moongel it sounds like a old school chad smith snare if tuned right but can be poppy like a david silveria piccolo, its worth every cent!!!
