I must state that I don't own this guitar just yet. But, I was able to play it for about an hour tonight at my local Guitar Center store. The version I played was a tobacco sunburst color; I do find the maple colored model to be attractive too (so I'm not sure which one I'll buy). Anyway, this instrument is an affordable player's guitar. The action is very nice - easy bending and an extremely accessible and accomodating neck all the way up to the highest of notes. I noticed no buzzing etc. and I was able to move about the neck with ease and plenty of folks gazed at the guitar while I rocked and jazzed out. The semi-hollow body gives you that touch of extra sustain for jazz, or great rock-soloing (which I love to do). I got to overdrive this awhile on a Marshall stack and the tone is so very nice. For those who care, this guitar is made in Korea, but I found it to be very forgiving, and the tolerances and finish appeared no-less than PRS expectations. This is a light guitar too, which I find pleasing instead of my long-time friend (my Strat). I also played a much more expensive PRS custom prior to this and it was stiff and really had less to offer a true player - it was set up more for metal/crunch (not really my gig). Overall, the SE semi hollow custom is a very playable, and versatile guitar which you could play anything on. I will note that the tobacco sunburst model didn't have the bird inlays on the frets.. This is one awesome guitar, but honestly it's set up for those who play a lot and can appreciate and utilize it's abilities (especially advanced rock soloing and jazz stuff). So, this isn't for an 18 year old kid beginner. Not saying an 18 yr old can't play this, but you get my drift.. But for you folks who know what's up, this thing is a gem. Get this.

Bought this today and I had to adjust the action via rod immediately. Also it needed a bridge adjustment. The strings it comes with are weak and need replaced. I will also be replacing the pickup switch and pots. I will hold off on the humbuckets for now but since I am in the habait of replacing most of them in the guitars I have, I feel pretty confident that I will replace them at some point. The Korean pickups leave much to be desired most of the time. I do like the feel, weight, and finish. It maybe because of the newness and the cheap strings but retunning was a constant. Not sure I would buy a PRS SE again but I will certainly be saving for an American made version of a semi hollow PRS.

A "Keeper"

By Patrick

from Oregon

I owned many guitars and played more. The PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollowed Body is one of my "Keepers". The play-ability and tonality trump most of my other guitars. I know that I will be able to play this guitar when I am old and can't tolerate the weight of a solid body axe on my neck and shoulder, which is sooner everyday. Play-ability; the neck is fast and well balanced to the body, the frets are fairly flawless, the scale length and upper range has correct intonation and easily reachable and fret able. Tonality; really good Korean humbuckers that are clean in lower settings and sparkle in mid volume, with a great break-up growl all the way up. Really versatile, even with just a 3-way switch, volume and tone. Get the PRS sound and quality at a bargain price. My amp, my ear, and my audience cannot tell the difference.

My New Love

By CASEY FRASCA

from Reno, Nevada

I bought this guitar one week ago from the local guitar center, and wow am I impressed. I have been looking at getting this guitar for a long time and all the expectations I had were met and in some cases beat. First off, the guitar came in a great looking case from PRS (which is probably because I ordered it and didn't get it right from the store) and When I opened it up I swear that everyone in the store, including the salesman, came up and were looking at what a beauty it is. It has a great look to it, even though mine didn't come with the zebra pickups, and the acoustic sound that came from it was great. I took it straight home and tore off the strings (which I found were really bright for my tastes) and I put on some flat wound strings, which I truly recommend. The only problem that I had was that the channels in the nut were not big enough for the .11 size strings. So a friend of mine and I took a knife and did some guitar plastic surgery, not a great idea but we were able to make the channels big enough. So onto the sound. With the flat wound strings on I found that this guitar has a great warm and full tone to it, perfect for rock rhythm or a sweet jazz sound, I play through a line 6 spider, but I want to grab a tube amp soon to add even more to the warmth. I usually play with the 3 way in the treble/neck pickup position for any rhythm playing, and I have found that the Middle position gives a great lead fullness with amazing sustain. I just played my first gig with it and, although it does look like a mirror in some pictures it is amazingly photogenic and looks great onstage. I can't believe that this guitar is actually mine and I really feel like it will take my playing to the next level. I don't care if it is a "student edition," this guitar is Pro quality all the way.

Fantastic Guitar In Every Way!

By Steven Failla

from Franklin, MA

This guitar is awesome. I have owned an ESP Ltd H-1000 Deluxe for almost 5 years, because all I used to play is metal, and that guitar was great - but lately I have been getting more into blues and other rock music, and I play with the band at my church (stuff like Hillsong, Jesus Culture, Bethel, etc). This guitar is perfect for any of these. The tone and volume knobs allow for precision tweaking of tone for different songs and styles, and the stock pickups sound great. It's super light, yet built with serious quality. Last weekend I played a set where I had to capo-11 for a song, and I was able to switch back and forth from the capo without having to re-tune for more than maybe 5-seconds. Stock hardware seems very reliable and well-built. If you are weary of the "SE" tag, don't be, this guitar plays wonderfully. Ordered straight from the factory, showed up in perfect condition. Great neck action/intonation, comes with 9-gauge strings (might switch to 10s myself), and mine came with the red SE gig bag too, didn't expect that! Incredible value for this guitar, looks and plays like a true PRS product. Highly recommend!

Buy with confidence

By darren grote

from Des Moine, IA

Just wanted to chime in and say that not only is this a great guitar for the price, but we had a great experience with PRS as well. My son bought the natural wood version of this guitar less than a year ago and it is great to play, light weight and sounds and looks good on stage. We did not buy the extended warranty through GC. The last time we took it in to get the neck adjusted the tech found that the truss rod would not adjust and the neck was beginning to twist. Our first thought was oh no here we go. Took it back to GC and they said we would have to go to PRS. Got ahold of Matt at PRS and it could not have been a better experience. We sent the guitar back and they checked it out. They are shipping us a new guitar to replace it. They even took the pick-guard (that is really cool) off the old guitar and put it on the new one. Can't wait to get the new guitar in the mail. Hey things happen (the truss rod) to every company, but great to work with a company that stands behind their workmanship. No hassles, no run around, just great service.

A very good guitar, but not for everybody.

By Ed Mathews

from Fallston, MD

This is a little bit of an odd beast IMO. I ordered this because:1) The beauty of the natural finish. 2) The light weight. 3) The wide fat neck (which I prefer). 4) The "Birds". 4) The versatility. This is my 5th SE, and the quality on all of them has been excellent, exceeding most other guitars in their price range. This one was no exception, although the natural mahogany finish on the neck and back of the body was not as light and gorgeous as the one I saw in the GC store. But it is pretty, and feels light and comfortable to play for hours. Because of the semi-hollow body, the acoustic tone of this instrument is very pleasing, and the strings ring forever on this thing. So much so that you had better practice your muting when playing through an amp. But in the month or so I've had this, I've learned something I guess I should have known all along, mainly that it's not nearly as versatile as I would have imagined. No matter what pick-up/amp settings you use, it will always sound like a semi-hollow guitar. I had imagined being able to use this for most any song, and also get a more solid body sound as well, but that is just not possible with this guitar as it comes stock. Don't get me wrong, the sounds are good - very good, but it does lack the brightness, the punch, and balls of a good solid body, so it's not quite as versatile as I had hoped. Maybe I was stupid for thinking it would be, so that's not a knock against the quality of the instrument. But in all fairness, it is partially sold on it's versatility, so that's why I gave it only 4 stars. Perhaps a pick-up change with coil tap option might be in the future for me.

Great guitar for begginers and pros alike

By Brendan Hollowell

from Richmond Va

I have this guitar in a dark green color and i must say it is one of the best playing guitars I have ever played. The action is very smooth and the the sound is phenominal. It has good sustain on lower notes and bright high notes. My only regret is that mine does not have bird inlays. Overall a great guitar and i recommend this to anyone with the money.

I can't believe how great this Guitar sounds...

By Doug

from CA

.... I've had tons and played tons of guitars but this one is beyond belief!!! It plays like a 2K guitar! You can bend the strings to the moon and back. The pickups are so bright, with screaming mids. I'm a real reserve person but this one really has impressed me to to the max. I went into the Guitar center and the guy working there talked me into getting a store credit card and a few mins later I ordered one of these creatures. You've gotta play this guitar!!!!!!!! Its astronomical. You think I'm kidding... but after you do you'll buy one too (get the store card its only 80 bucks a month.. divided by 6mos) ... Well keep rockin. I'm a PRS fan Now!!
