Great, but does have drawbacks.

Comments about Kala Rumbler Fretted Acoustic-Electric U-Bass:

It's wonderfully light, suits me better than my big, heavy Thunderbird, but it's lacking in some areas. Can't slide the strings, sometimes have odd deadspots, but for what it is, it's wonderful. Only thing that would make it better is some silver coated strings to give it a better feel. On another note, if you're looking for more of an upright bass sound and feel, this is it without the bulk, weight, or learning curve. Thank you Kala for making such an awesome bass.

Comments about Kala Rumbler Fretted Acoustic-Electric U-Bass:

I just got this Rumbler yesterday, and I can't seem to put it down. This little bass has the voice of a 6-foot stand-up bass, kind of like the little bitty dog that won't back down from a great big dog 'cause he doesn't know he's little. ADVICE TIP #1: Stretch the strings by wiggling them back and forth and playing the bass every day to cut down on stretching time. ADVICE TIP #2: Be very careful when you replace the batteries (two CR 2032). Once they clear the body, they will fall out of the holder, so take note how they came out. ADVICE TIP #3: The tuners have a very low turning ratio, so you have to be patient. I had to turn each tuner 3 or 4 complete revolutions to go up half a note. I now have 19 basses, all completely different with completely different voices. My Rumbler is a great addition to the family and will get some serious stage time. Those big, fat rubbery (polyurethane) strings are so easy to play, and it took almost no time at all to get used to the small fret board. Also, it's such a lightweight! I bought an EHX B9 effects pedal yesterday, too, and it weighs more than the Rumbler! I could go on and onnnnnn, but my new baby is calling to me - again.

Comments about Kala Rumbler Fretted Acoustic-Electric U-Bass:

I am primarily a rhythm guitar player, but started out on bass in the 60's. After hearing/seeing one of these used by a professional group Uke Box Band on a cruise 18 months ago, I thought I might like to get one. Finally bit the bullet and I've had this Rumbler about a month now; it really makes playing bass more fun. A number of other musicians have remarked that it sounds just like an upright bass and I agree. The only issue I have is that the rubber strings kind of like to hold on to my fingers. I've tried ghs Fast Fret, but that doesn't work. Will probably try Finger Ease next and hope it works. If it does, five stars!

Comments about Kala Rumbler Fretted Acoustic-Electric U-Bass:

For such a small instrument, this little bass has huge tone. It's like having a 6-foot standup bass packed into a half-pint body, kind of like a little bitty dog that doesn't know he's little. I just got it yesterday, and I can't seem to put it down. ADVICE TIP #1: wiggle and stretch the strings and play it every day until the strings are broken in and stay in tune. This will shorten the time. ADVICE TIP #2: be VERY careful when you replace the batteries. Once you pull out the battery holder, they will fall loose, so take the time to see which way the go in. They are CR2023, two of them. ADVICE TIP #3: Be aware that the gear ratio on the tuners is very low. I had to turn the tuner 3 or 4 complete turns to go up less than half a note, so be patient. I love the big bass sound, which is due to those fat, rubbery strings. I now have 19 different basses - no two are even closely alike, - and the Rumbler is a most welcome addition to the family. I could go on and on, but the new baby is calling to me again.
