The EVH Striped Series '78 Eruption Electric Guitar combines the rebellious spirit of Eddie Van Halen's Frankenstrat with modern design and technology. When Van Halen's eponymous debut album was released in 1978, the 22-year-old guitarist revealed an instrument unlike anything seen before—because he built it himself. His Frankenstrat featured a contoured ash body, PAF-style humbucker and distinctive black-and-white striped finish. The Striped Series '78 Eruption pays homage to that revolutionary ax while providing exceptional playability and tone.

Authentic EVH Electronics and Hardware

At the heart of the '78 Eruption is an EVH Wolfgang humbucking pickup, which delivers Eddie's signature hot yet balanced sound. A 500k EVH Bourns volume pot lets you create seamless volume swells, while a treble bleed circuit prevents loss of high end at lower settings. A vintage-style Fender synchronized tremolo bridge provides Eddie's classic divebombing and warbling effects. These components are finished in reliced chrome, replicating the Frankenstrat's aged hardware.

Fast Maple Neck and Compound-Radius Fingerboard

The '78 Eruption features a quartersawn maple neck for exceptional stability and sustain. Its compound-radius fingerboard—flatter at higher frets for fluid soloing—provides a comfortable feel for any playing style. 22 jumbo frets allow for deep bends and low action. A heel-mount truss rod adjustment wheel offers convenient neck relief tweaks on the fly.

Iconic Striped Aesthetic

No detail was spared recreating the Frankenstrat's iconic design. The '78 Eruption sports a basswood body with Eddie's famous black-and-white striped finish, aged using EVH's meticulous relicing process. A black pickguard and oversized strap buttons complete the '70s-inspired look. The guitar is topped off with a '70s-style Fender Stratocaster headstock bearing Eddie's signature in gold.

Premium Gig Bag Included

The '78 Eruption comes with an EVH striped gig bag, ideal for transporting and protecting this collectible instrument.
