This is an excellent book in explaining major, minor, pentatonic and scales theory. The book is also great in explaining the relationship between strings in terms of half and whole steps. The exercise section is real helpful in helping you to demonstrate your understanding. While the book is short, the information contained is hugely valuable. There is no substitute for practicing the scales and principals you are learning, so you can expect to spend a lot of time just to move 4 or 5 pages. But if your serious, this should not discourage you. As you practice these scales more and more, they will almost automagically begin to link to one another and before long be able to jump around the fretboard and stay perfectly within the scale.
If you are looking to truly understand the guitar, this is your book. Learn to play your own music instead of imitating others. Learn where all the notes are and how to play scales without having to read it from a chart. Learn the theory behind how chords are formed. This book will teach you all this and more with easy to understand techniques and clear concise language. If you want to take the time and learn it right, buy this book.
