  • Surprisingly good sounding mandolin

As reviewed by Steve Whitten on 7/24/2013

This is a really good sounding mandolin which is why I spent my hard earned money on it after playing every mandolin I could get my hands on over several weeks. I had it professionally set up and never looked back. Good tone and build quality and a really nice "chop" sound. For the price you get a solid mando that you won't outgrow in a few months. I think this one is really worth the price. Please don't ignore this instrument because of the prior poor review. Adjusting the truss rod should only be done by a pro and the previous review mentions trying to use it to get his action lower? That's not really its purpose. Please, take your stringed instruments to a PRO for set up. It will cost a few bucks but it will play easier and sound better. The Guitar center by me even has a tech on staff... its just that easy.

  • beautiful mandolin, unplayable, but pretty

As reviewed by BRANDON GRIMM on 7/30/2012

when i looked at this mandolin in the store, it was beautiful, sounds wonderful, but the action was a bit high. i thought, no worries, a little truss rod adjustment, tweak the bridge, action is still a mile high. to top it off the 12th fret is dead. brand new instrument, dead fret. I'm in the process of exchanging for a new one, and i will be closely examining it before leaving the store. not saying that these are bad instruments, but check it out before buying! they are made in china, and may be lacking some quality control standards. these quality issues should not be occurring in an instrument of this price. i have a $100 mandolin that plays better, it does not sound as good, but plays better (though it also has dead frets, which is why i bought a new mando in the first place)
