Comments about Meinl Headliner Series Bongos:

So I was fooling around on the GC site, and I saw these as highest customer rating. As it happened, I had to drop by the local GC to pick up a bass drum beater I had ordered, and there these were. Having a bit of time, I gave them a little workout and MAN! What a classic bongo sound! Not woody and organic like $300.00USD drums on your knee, but like what you'd hear on the radio or in the movies. Really very nice, especially from some kind of plastic shell (PVC?). I think some plastics just inherently project well; ever play on an empty 5-gallon water bottle? Those are often polycarbonate and can resonate surprisingly well. Might be the same case here. For the fussy, audiophile type, the homogenous shell material doesn't lend itself to the kind of organic overtones you get from wood shells. One might compare the difference as that between the light from a candle and an LED programmed to flicker like a candle. Of course the LED can be brighter and won't go out, but we all know the candle has something the LED can't produce. Same idea here. That said. the shells really sound great, and oddly at this price point, they wear real skin heads, which, IMHO, makes all the difference in the sound. I bought these for casual practice, but my friends are awed by their sound and price. I see no reason to spend more, unless I were to infest a recording studio for close-miked jazz work. As most of the producers around here know my playing pretty well, that won't be happening... ;) Consider these for any playing, I think you'll go "WOW!" like I did.!

Comments about Meinl Headliner Series Bongos:

I play the drums and as you know you cant take your drums everywhere... So I saw my teacher using a rounded pan drum around $2000. I wanted to start expanding my talents and these bongos are amazing, if tuned correctly you easily have a very quality set!

    Killer Bongos!!

    By JOHN

    from Bountiful, Utah

Comments about Meinl Headliner Series Bongos:

I'm new to the hand drum world, read a decent amount of reviews on different bongos. Went to the store and tried out a couple models. These sound great!! even compared to there high priced wooden models, I felt that these have a better tone. Very happy, also bought the extended warranty, way worth it because buying new heads is way more.

    GREAT INSTRUMENT

    By RICHARD STUTZ

    from Greenwood, Indiana

Comments about Meinl Headliner Series Bongos:

Tuned properly you can get quality Afro-Cuban sounding bongos. The shell material brings out more sound than a wood set of Bongos so it is great to use in concert. Works well with Rock music also. Holds up well in travel and for the money this instrument holds it's own.
