Well, My favorite Martin is - The Little Martin I'm a beginner and I purchased a full size guitar and found it was just too hard for me to handle. As a Woman and 5'2" I just did not feel comfortable holding the larger guitar. I decided to buy The Little Martin after reading some other reviews. I'm glad I did. I think I would have given up trying to learn guitar if I had stuck with the full size. Now, I'm going to give it a serious try. It's easy to hold - feels comfortable- great sound & tone. It's really cute. Comes with a gig bag. I think it's the best guitar for a beginner - especially a woman - if you have short arms like me. Thanks

You couldn't go any smaller and get any sense of a functional guitar, and Martin has done a great job building tone, playability and durability into this box. Unfortunately for me it is just too small to really enjoy taking along as my one guitar for a week vacation. It doesn't feel right cradled in my skinny 6 ft frame. My fingers crave a larger fretboard. The new (bigger, pricier) Taylor Mini is about as small as I'd like to go without it feeling like a novelty/different instrument that I need to learn all over again by cramping my fingers. But I like its tone, and it fits overhead luggage - I brought mine to Africa and back. Better than no guitar! Play one first - If it feels good, you will enjoy having this for its portability.

Love my little Martin!

By mary

from Boston

I wanted a guitar to mess around with but not be on my toes worried about it getting scratched or dropping it for the sake of my wallet. For this price, this guitar is perfect..amazed me from the moment I picked it up at GC. Tried the LXM but sounded a bit dull. For the extra $10 you can get the LX1, with the solid spruce top which gives it the well known martin ring with a vibrant and alive tone. It sounds almost like my Taylor, which is a major compliment. The neck is so smooth and easy to play on, not too thick or thin. Great low action as soon as I got it out of the box. No tweaking done whatsoever. The strings are perfect, action perfect, and most importantly the sound is perfect. Amazing guitar for the price. Can't believe the sound that can come out of this little guy! But hey, a Martin's a Martin. Couldn't be happier with it.

Just what I was looking for!

By Thomas Willis

from Clyde, TX

Did a lot of internet review reading and comparison and settled on this Martin LX1. Been traveling a lot for work and wanted a smaller guitar to take with me to practice on. This guitar fit the bill. I like everything about it. Looks like they covered all the bases on it. I like the idea of the laminates. It will hold up better going from Texas in December to the freezing cold of Montana. It sounds really good. Not as rich and full as a regular sized Martin but I wasn't expecting that. Folks at the Guitar Center in Albuquerque were great. I get here fairly frequently and I really like this store. Thanks!

Great Sound for a Travel Guitar

By WILLIAM FAHRNER

from Chatham, Ontario

I had purchased a different brand guitar this past summer for when I went on vacation etc. Just wanted something I could play when I wanted to, and also one, that the beach and heat wouldn't damage. Well, it was durable, but didn't sound all that good. I just purchased the Martin LX1 last week and LOVE IT! It has a nice warm rich sound for a little guitar. I tried several in the store, and this one sounded the best. Great gig bag too! Today I played my Ovation, and then played the Little Martin. Sure there's a difference, but the Martin sounds great. I highly recommend it. Oh, it also has a wider neck, which helps.

Tremendous first guitar, Guitar Center is 5 stars as well

By Captive Socks

from New Jersey

First time guitar player who is retirement age. Self-instructing on guitar. Absolutely thrilled with this instrument. The size is perfect. It creates plenty of sound and is physically manageable. Astonished by how well it maintains its tuning. I wanted an instrument that sounded rich but not too bright, and one that would be forgiving enough to support a newbie. I didn't want to spend a great deal of effort maintaining it. I also didn't want to spend $500 on a small Taylor when I was doing this on a whim. LX1 fit my requirements. Did research online then went to a Guitar Center store to put my hands and ears on the instruments. I was extremely impressed by the person at the guitar center who helped me. He took lots of time, was patient, and very helpful. Based on how I was treated on my initial visit, I will always go to the Guitar Center first for what I now suspect will be many years of guitar business.

suprised!!

By sarah cruver

from fredonia, new york

When I bought this little guitar, I was not at all expecting how awesome the thing would sound. I love playing this guitar, and I will pick it up over any of my standard sized acoustics because it is small, portable, and easy to play. It also stays in tune, another quality I was quite satisfied with because other smaller guitars I've seen can fall out of tune quite easily. All in all, a great guitar, and lives up to its name.

Sweet Little Guitar

By Paul Reh

from Wantagh, NY

Great little guitar with the quality of a Martin. It is a good traveling guitar as it fit easily into the overhead compartment of the commercial jet. The soft bag that comes with it provided ample protection. It provided me with hours of entertainment while visiting my wife's family! It has the nice distinctive Martin low E bass sound and overall good quality sound useable up to fret 12 (15 if you want to work at it) The finish is good and the neck is especially smooth. The frets are a reasonable size to easily play chords. It sits in my family room and is a nice light lap companion that I reach for whenever I am half watching tv. My regular Breedlove acoustic now seems bulky and heavy for anything but serious practice time. I expect years of pleasure from this baby Martin. Well worth the price.

Good, if you like the idea of an oversized ukelele

By Cody Frye

from DFW, TX

What I will say is this litle guitar is built surprisingly well. Frets are clean, neck's straight, intonation's on, action is acceptable, tuners are GREAT, wood quality and overall construction is nice. The sound.....well, it's fairly small, to be honest. But, if you're buying such a small guitar expecting a full range of tones, you're SOL here. Although it can get fairly loud while strumming with a pick (I'd say about 6 or 7 out of 10...10 being a full-sized dreadnought) it always maintains a ukelele-like tone and it's fairly quiet while picking. In other words, don't expect this guitar to ring out and resonate like a full sized acoustic because it never will. As for claiming to be 3/4 the size of a regular guitar, I'd say no. When you consider the body, it's maybe 60% the size at best...and that's pushing it. It's enjoyable to play, it stays in tune, it's built to last a while, and it looks good. Those are the qualities you want to look for in a guitar. The tone is really in the ear of the beholder. Again, we're talking about mix of acoustic and ukelele, no matter how you cut it. Sot, the best thing to do, as always, is play one in your local guitar store before you buy.

completely satisfied

By caroline nosworthy

from Dallas Texas

I was a little hesitant to order based on the size of this guitar. It seemed like a novelty, not a long term investment. I couldn't have been more wrong. The Little Martin is the perfect size, has great sound and is very easy to play. We anticipate many years of use. This is a good all around guitar for beginners and advanced musicians.
