  • Great fun Frampton-style!

As reviewed by Dave Arasim on 5/15/2013

The MXR M222 came delivered to my door 4 days after I ordered it.* Wow, that was fast! I took it to band practice that night literally out of the box... It worked great! I had never even tried a talk box before, and felt confident from the first note (granted I have a long way to go with Frampton-like 'talking'). Pretty easy to use. The controls are basic and are all you need to get a good sound. When practicing at home, you don't necessarily need a mic as you can hear it right through your noggin. The big draw for me was 'no amp required'. It has its own driver, so is self-contained. Solid build too. I am giving it 4-stars only because the mic stand clip to hold the tube in place comes loose rather easily. This can be remedied with duct tape or whatever. The unit itself is otherwise great in every way. *A note about Guitar Center service. It is excellent! I first pursued the M222 through Amazon instead, who outsourced the order to Tin Music. I received a fulfillment message and everything, but then got an e-mail 4 days later saying they didn't have it in stock. WTF? They followed up with a bunch of lame excuses and lies about how their supplier let them down, blah, blah, blah... Anyway, in the same time Amazon told me they couldn't deliver (4 days, mind you), Guitar Center was able to get it to my door, and for $10 less in price! I would recommend staying away from Amazon for music gear. They sell books well, but not music gear!

  • MXR nailed it !

As reviewed by Scott Jones Productions on 3/15/2013

I boulght the heil talk box in december not knowing about these. It turned out, you need another rig to hook it it up. Its basicaly a speaker cabinet. Worked awsome but hated the second amp. The danalectro had an exelent concept with mic input to amp direct ( first of its kind )But is very underpowered.Basicaly a toy.I returned it.The banshee has poor construction, a folded over piece of aluminum with steel sides crudley bolted on, leaking sound evrywhere. I purchased the mxr today and just tested it..... It has PLENTY of volume,, ( 18 volt power )I only needed 4 on the volume,, however if you wish you con rattle your teeth ( no joke )with this bad boy !! It has a VERY solid , heavy, and compact design, taking a minamal amount of space for such a great effect, also the instructions are very helpfull in breaking down the alphabet into different categories, and explainig how to pronounce them correctly, resulting in true guitar speach. The heil has an light thing you screw on,, yet there is no light in the unit???? Didnt make sense tome, maybe i didnt buy the light, or wire it in ? However, turn the mxr on, the led comes on and you know your hot.So basicaly,, its the real deal with a coulple of improvements, the volume, tone, and gain controlls reaaly expand upon the original concept, no amp needed, led refenc light for operation, very rugged enclosed constuction, and well... it just looks cool as ,,, you know. Hope this helps !
