  • MXR Phase 100

As reviewed by Don H... on 7/10/2010

Great effect pedal. Had one years ago and lost it but I just got this one as to get that sound I missed. Only thing is that I wish they would have redesigned how you replace the battery. Other than that this is a great buy, cheaper and better than the Boss versions for sure..

  • It's no Keeley phaser

As reviewed by Michael Miller on 12/30/2011

It sounds pretty darn spot on the the Phase 90. But it really lacks the tweak-ability that something like the keeley phaser gives. Over all I would say it's a worthwhile purchase if you don't want to drop the cash for a keeley. I think I will return it however as it just doesn't do exactly what I want it to.

  • My Favorite Phase

As reviewed by Steven Castineiras on 5/14/2010

I play this with a bass so I can't really vouch on how it sounds on guitar. I set this up in a shootout between the phase 90, the Boss Phase Shifter and some phase samplers on the Pandora multi-effect. The multi-effect was terrible so I'll rule that out... It was more tasteful sounding than the Boss, more warmth but had less features. You can get a phase 90 sound out of the 100 as well as some other sounds. Overall I just liked the pedal best out of the 4. This phaser has two knobs. An interval knob with four settings that clicks into place and the rate knob. Simple yet effective. The knobs come with an honestly ugly rubber cover that allows one to adjust the pedal with only their feet. This is both radical and awesome, as well as tubular. For not many pedals can be adjusted like this and the ones that can are very useful. The four waves consist of pretty much two different sounds, both with a long and short sweep. Going clockwise and starting at the right, the first two wave types are mellow and sound quite like the phase 90. The first having a shorter sweep than the second. The last two have a brighter, more intense, very slightly synthy and cringly icey sound. The third wave's sweep is shorter than the fourth's. The Rate is tasteful, it doesn't slow to a near stop or go so fast all you get is noise. MXR really doesn't like to put a lot of obnoxious, outlandish sounds into their pedals. Compared to EHX and Boss, MXR sometimes seems boring but they are always tasteful and that's what's important when making music. It didn't do anything too fancy, but it's just a very good sounding phase at a reasonable price.
