Overview

Line 6 FBV Shortboard MKII Footswitch isn't your average footcontroller. It's a full-on remote control that keeps you at the foot of the stage instead of tied to the front of your Line 6 amp or POD processor. It offers all the classic advantages you expect from a Line 6 foot controller, including rock-solid channel switches, a rugged wah/volume pedal and an oversized backlit display, but it's also full of surprises.

The steel footswitches give you total control over your tone. Dedicated footswitches let you change, scroll and select presets with uncompromised speed, add or remove effects in an instant, synchronize all your time-based effects with Tap Tempo, and more.

Load up to 64 presets in the 4 banks. Adding individual or simultaneous effects on top of each preset allows for on-the-fly colorization and customization of your tones. An added bonus: the well-spaced guitar footswitches are conveniently laid out so that you're not stepping on two at once (unless you want to).

Click the toe to volley back and forth between volume and wah-wah control. (Adding an expression pedal provides dedicated volume control.) Oversized and backlit, the LCD is big, bright and easy to read. It shows you everything you need to know including preset name chromatic tuner display.

Line 6 FBV Shortboard MKII is compatible with and connects to your Line 6 amp or POD processors via the included locking RJ-45 cable. The FBV footswitch also features a USB jack that can be used for upgrading the firmware of Spider IV and Spider Valve MKII amplifiers.

Perfectly paired with Spider IV and Spider Valve MKII amplifiers, this FBV Shortboard footswitch provides complete, handsfree control of the looper, pitch-shifter and other on-board effects.

Features
  • Total floor control of your Line 6 amp and POD
  • Reliable steel footswitches
  • Dedicated footswitches for preset bank select, bank scroll, effect select, tuner, tap tempo, and more
  • Burly, full-sized volume/wah pedal with plenty of grip
  • Oversized and bright LCD displays chromatic presets and tuner
  • RJ-45 cable included

My amp is a Line-6 Spider 3 150w 2x12. I started with the Express pedal, but quickly found a need for the Shortboard. This is definitely a worthy addition to my live rig and has become my little "command center". I don't know what I'd do without it! If you own a Spider 3-4, you NEED this for your setup. Your amp has a lot of functions and sounds and this pedal gives you the control that you need. PROS: 1. Instant, and I mean INSTANT channel switching! (A-D buttons) This is essential for playing live. No noisy beeps, clicks or delays. 2. Software available gives you total control. You have the option to customize every aspect of the unit. For example, I am going to disable the volume portion of the expression pedal as I don't use it. No fear of accidentally moving it and driving our sound guy nuts! 3. Well built, solid construction. This thing is setup to take a real-world beating. 4. Plug and play. No muss, no fuss. Super easy to use right out of the box. CONS: 1. I wish the bank up/down switches were side-by-side rather than above/below. When I click the "up" I have to be cautious not to hit the "down" at the same time. You have to use your toe a little more than I prefer, especially live. To remedy, I found myself revising the order of my presets and banks so that if I need to switch banks mid-song, hitting "down" takes me to where I need to be. 2. While I LOVE having a long cord to the amp, the texture of the cord casing is posing a new issue that is tough to remedy. It's coiled tight for packing and the stiff plastic/rubber has a bit of a "memory" to it. Unwrapping it and grabbing an end resembles a slinky! Obviously, that's natural with many cables. However, I've had the pedal for a couple of weeks now and it still hasn't relaxed flat/straight, even after I've worked it a bit. Not a huge issue, but I have to tape it down live tighter more than usual or someone can trip over it or hook their foot on it and damage the cord. 3. Small issue when connecting to PC to calibrate for first time. The program tells you when to plug in the USB cable. But you need to plug in the PC end FIRST, and then plug in the pedal. I had the USB cord already plugged into the pedal and when prompted, I plugged it into the PC. No dice. PC first, THEN pedal! Small annoyance, but no deal breaker. 4. As with my Express pedal, the Shortboard doesn't make clicking the expression pedal between wah/volume an easy one. The instructions even tell you that the more you do it, the less pressure it will eventually take. I normally use a Morley "Bad Horsie", but will use this one in a pinch. In summary, I'm super-glad I bought this pedal! It gives me the control I need in an sturdy, easy-to-use package. Line-6 amps do a lot of great things, and this pedal helps you maximize your sound options. The cons are minor and a couple are personal preference. The pros outweigh them by far! This has given my live setup new flexibility helps out myself and band sound better.

While this pedal is very attractive and has a lot of features I found it very difficult to operate while on stage. It was hooked up to a Line 6 Spider IV 150. The tiny LCD screen is very hard to read whilst sitting on the floor. The pedals themselves are very small buttons that tend to get stuck in the tread of my shoes. The cat5 cable always had to be duck taped to the floor because it would not lay flat. And worst of all, the software used to connect this to a PC is absolute garbage. I tried everything to make it work (I'm a computer technician) and had no luck. When I called Line 6 the guy on the line said that he had the same rig in front of him and it was working just fine so I must be doing something wrong. The Spider IV 150 literally smoked 2 weeks ago and I am getting something different.

Brings the Amplifi to life

By Joe

from Cedar Rapids, IA

If you are wondering how to make your Amplifi useful in a live setting, this is the tool. It gives you more complete control over the individual effects and access to a wider bank of tones. It is also ruggedly built and greatly simplifies your setup.

Where was it 15 years ago lol

By Wes

from Lucedale, Ms

After 20 years of lugging tons of gear from place to place , Having to spend allot of time resetting each individual effect box before the show, and connecting and disconnecting the pedals with all the chords, This is Heaven for me! My computer sets my specific settings and downloads it straight to my Spider IV 75, then I carry my guitars and one amp and one board. Fast easy to use set up and use.

The only way to play Line 6

By Peter

from Pearland, TX

This controller is awesome and IMO is the only way to play Line 6 equipment. The editing software is the best feature as the edit functions on (in my case) the Spider IV is a bit challenging. Definitely worth the money and highly recommended if you play live.

Excellent...but...

By Karl

from Alburtis, PA

I bought the Shortboard MkII because the Line 6 site said the Pod Pro X wouldn't work with the FBV Longboard from my Vetta. The Shortboard works very well and seems to be well built, however, the buttons are WAY too close together for someone as klutzy as myself. I was getting frustrated with that and then I found out that Line 6 LIED. My FBV Longboard works perfectly well with the HD Pro X, it just has a couple extra buttons that don't do anything. the Shortboard Mk II is a great pedal if you need one, but don't get it if you already have an FBV Longboard.

Simple, Strong, Easy...What More Could Want at a Gig?

By James Adams

from Oakland, CA

Simple, Strong, Easy to Use....makes my live rig very easy to set up and tear down....any signal issues are easy to troubleshoot because with my HD100 Line6 head, and the shortboard, I only need and use a total of 4 cables! 1 guitar, 1 CAT5 to Shortboard, 1 speaker cable and 1 power cable for the HD100. Easy!

Really completes the HD Pro experience.

By Jacob Fleming

from Dallas, TX

Awesome pedal, really makes playing live or jamming with the POD HD Pro a snap. Just to review, here's how it works with said POD: the bottom 4 switches (A-D) cycle through the next 4 patches on your POD, and the top left switches (with up and down arrows) cycle you through your "playlist" of patches 4 patches at a time; you then press one of the A-D switches to choose the patch. For example, say you're using patch 1 on your Pro. To use patch 2, just click pedal B. Bam. To use patch 5, click the up arrow once and then switch A. To get to patch 11 from patch 1, press up twice and then pedal C. It's really pretty easy and works great when you want to use a lot of different sounds in a live setting. The tuner is easy to access and shows up on the small screen, which is lit and easy to see on stage. The rest of the buttons turn on or off the various pedals you have turned on on your patch. However, you do need to figure out which corresponds to which, as sometimes "Stomp" with turn on or off "Delay" and so on. I need to mess with that a bit more, but I'm pretty sure that can be worked out in HD Edit. The quality of the pedal is great. It is thin, and yet feels solid, well-made, and reliable. The volume/wah pedal works very well, better even than the stand-alone Morley I have. The tapering is pretty smooth and works for volume swells, and feels like it can definitely stand up to the ol' NASCAR Foot (the condition of using the volume pedal to bust out way too many swells in a solo). Looks great as well, and I love the way it only needs one cable hooked up to the HD Pro to be ready to rock. So much more efficient than a full pedalboard. If you're using one of the HD models, get this guy as soon as you can. Makes the unit into the live beast it is destined to be, and even makes working in the studio efficient as heck also. I can't speak for how it works with other Line 6 units, but based on the other reviews here it seems great. My one suggestion would be also to consider the Line 6 footswitch bag. It's nicely made and makes storing and transporting the footswitch a breeze. Bottomline, buy it and rule the world.

AWESOME!!!!

By Nick Arquette

from Berne, NY

I love this pedal. The wah is really responsive, it's so easy to figure out how to control your spider, mkII, or spider valve amps. Everything is mapped out in an easy to use configuration. Plus the updates for your amp and pedal are readily available whenever you are ready for that next step. If you have a recording program already, this is an outstanding hands free control for that as well. You can't lose with this pedal.

Don't Try this at Home!

By Scott G Smith

from Kirkland, WA

After 30+ years of carrying a huge array of foot pedals from show to show all over the country, Having to spend allot of time resetting each individual effect box before the show, and connecting and disconnecting the pedals with all the chords, This is Heaven for me! My computer sets my specific settings and downloads it straight to my Spider IV 75, then I carry my guitars and one amp and one board. Fast easy to use set up and use. Now I just have to remember which sounds I have in the several settings. I will say that I was surprised to find that this amp replaced a Mesa Boogie with very little sound loss!

Works great!

By Brad Litton

from Vernal, UT

I got this to use with a Pod HD Pro and it works wonderfully. The only issue is that the bolt holding the pedal on was loose when it arrived, but that was easily fixed with an allen wrench.
