Overview

The Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue is back. This is the incomparable overdrive pedal that vintage gear hounds are always hoping to find. The 2004 TS808 reissue features the same famous square footswitch and the warm tones of the JRC4558 chip used in most of the original TS808s. Ignore look-alikes. If your tone is suffering from a lack of real warmth, the TS808 is the real, nongeneric prescription.

I'm really glad that this pedal has been reissued. There is a uniqueness to it.I use it the way S.R.V. did, which is with the gain turned off,it serves as a clean boost.S.R.V.'s amps were always turned up and breaking up already. The pedal would serve as a boost for solos, adding compression and sustain without dramatically altering the tone. With other tubescreamers and clones, you don't get the same type of warm density and creaminess as the 808.I play mainly strats through a Fender blues deluxe on the drive channel. My rhythm sound has the crunchy breakup I need and the 808 is perfect for my solos while preserving the main tonal characteristics of the guitar going through the amp.It is my main pedal.I compared it to a Keely modded ts-9(converted to original 808 specs)and really couldn't hear a significant difference,so why pay more for a boutique pedal?S.R.V. used the 808 early in his career(before using ts-9's and ts-10's)and I think that was his best tone.

I do not see the point in spending three times as much for this Tube Screamer when for a third of the price you can get an excellent value from its competitors. I am a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer. I can assure you an Operational amplifier is an Operational amplifier, which is the chip used to overdrive/distort/increase gain/clip a sinusoidal waveform. There is no magic wand to make Transistors, Resistors, Diodes and Capacitors any different. In fact, the manufacturers of these devices buy these chips in bulk from their makers (less than a handfull) in Japan. So, shop wisely and forget the hipe the sales and marketing folks sell you. any of the good competitors such as Boss.

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

Really great pedal - right out of the box. Guitarists are very finicky, like me, and all have their favorites, but it's hard to imagine a much better overdrive if you want that classic/timeless overdrive a la SRV, Mayer, etc. Plays very nicely in the sandbox with both my new American deluxe Strat and my old faithful PRS custom 24. I understand why so many players have this on the paddleboard.

      Nice overdrive and solid construction

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

I have no idea how my Tube Screamer sounded 35 years ago, but this is a really nice sounding overdrive pedal. It's a good addition to a pedal board. It is not a match to my ZenDrive, that pedal is just tonally masterful in every way. But it has a nice unique sound and absolutely will be used.

Got this to add to my Super Champ clean channel and it works and sounds great. The tone is exactly what I was looking for to get that similar Stevie Ray sound.

A classic piece of rock history

      By Marc Gorski

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

This actually my dads pedal, but he doesn't really play anymore. when he bought this it was $35. he never really loved it and neither did I. personally I don't love it but that just be the way i use, when I listen to people who use it correctly its great. the main thing i don't like about it is the size of the button. now I know how stupid that sounds, but if you're jammin on stage and you into it and you need to hit it it's easy to miss. and that ruins it. its a classic and its one of if not the most sought after pedal ever. so if you find one in good condition like mine, buy it.

Great tone, cuts like a knife!

      By Andrew Meyer

      from Oak Lawn, IL

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

Bought this just yesterday as an upgrade from my cheap little TS7 (based on the TS9); while the TS7 does sound great for the price, the sound just doesn't compare with the TS808. I compared the two in shop and have to say this one just has a more muscular tone. I use this to push the front end of my Egnater Tweaker 40, and cascade with the amp's gain. Playing with my band, this cut through better than my cheapo TS7 while still maintaining the warmth you expect from a tube screamer. Feels solid enough; nice and weighty too. I'm sure it could survive the kind of damage you'd expect in a rock situation. One thing that'll take some getting used to for me is the button; it's a bit harder to engage than my other pedals. Probably just something I need to get used to myself; otherwise I'd highly recommend this pedal.

      GREAT SOUNDING PEDAL

      By IAN ROGERS

      from Sunbury Australia

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

I purchased this pedal a couple of weeks ago at Guitar Center Las Vegas when i was on vacation from Australia. I wasn't sure if i should buy it or not as i have three other distortion pedals already. Well i made the right decision as it's fantastic coupled to a tube amp turned up. Buy one as you won't be dissapointed.

ON STAGE HAVE TO HAVE PEDAL

      By Danny Humphrey

      from Tulsa Ok

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

This pedal is a must for live performances. You will have to mess with the dials some but WOW! Once you get things dialed in its like the difference in a transistor radio and a beefed up Twin reverb. Not really for bedroom playing this pedal needs room to breathe for it's maximum ability to perform. GOOD LUCK. WELL WORTH THE $$.

      The Real Deal!!

      By S

      from PA

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

There is a reason why so many people still use THIS pedal even in a market flooded with clones, boutique overdrives, and anything else imaginable. It's the real deal. It doesn't need 6 knobs, toggle switches, and selectable operating voltages. It does one thing, and that is overdrive your tone! It can be used on top of a heavily distorted amp for solos, or on a cleaner breakup to add girth and growl. Some may say it's overrated and thats fine. Everyone has an opinion. Why are all the clones based off of an 808 circuit? Why are the vintage TS808s going for hundreds of dollars? Because the TS808 is the best.

      Not Heavy Enough

      By interstate 3

      from los angeles, ca.

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

well, i do not want to bash this product because it does say overdrive. and that is what it is. this is an overdrive pedal made to push your valves into further overdrive creating a sort of fuzzy sound. you will not get heavy fuzz tones here. Ive tried. it has no real bottom end to it and can sound a little transistor radio-like. if i was playing country/blues, it would be fine. but if you want to get more gritty and gutsy, you got to look else where. the only saving grace for me was that i use this pedal along side another bass heavy meatier fuzz pedal to smooth that out. or else i would have returned it.
