I'm really glad that this pedal has been reissued. There is a uniqueness to it.I use it the way S.R.V. did, which is with the gain turned off,it serves as a clean boost.S.R.V.'s amps were always turned up and breaking up already. The pedal would serve as a boost for solos, adding compression and sustain without dramatically altering the tone. With other tubescreamers and clones, you don't get the same type of warm density and creaminess as the 808.I play mainly strats through a Fender blues deluxe on the drive channel. My rhythm sound has the crunchy breakup I need and the 808 is perfect for my solos while preserving the main tonal characteristics of the guitar going through the amp.It is my main pedal.I compared it to a Keely modded ts-9(converted to original 808 specs)and really couldn't hear a significant difference,so why pay more for a boutique pedal?S.R.V. used the 808 early in his career(before using ts-9's and ts-10's)and I think that was his best tone.

I do not see the point in spending three times as much for this Tube Screamer when for a third of the price you can get an excellent value from its competitors. I am a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer. I can assure you an Operational amplifier is an Operational amplifier, which is the chip used to overdrive/distort/increase gain/clip a sinusoidal waveform. There is no magic wand to make Transistors, Resistors, Diodes and Capacitors any different. In fact, the manufacturers of these devices buy these chips in bulk from their makers (less than a handfull) in Japan. So, shop wisely and forget the hipe the sales and marketing folks sell you. any of the good competitors such as Boss.

A thing of beauty

By spittle8

from Detroit, MI

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

Keep in mind, the Ibanez TS-808 reissue Tubescreamer is meant for a TUBE amp, NOT a solid state. This OD is a legend; it has been used by guitarists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mike McCready, and many others. It is THE pedal for overdrive. Features: This pedal has three knobs: overdrive; tone; level. The OD knob adjusts the overdrive, how broken up the signal gets. The tone knob adjusts the amount of treble, and the level knob adjusts the intensity of said knobs. Plenty of versatility here. Tone: Beautiful. Instant Pearl Jam/SRV/classic rock. It not only produces great overdriven, crunchy rock, it also gives you a great boost for leads, accentuating the note, and it is an excellent pedal for metal, put in front of an already overdriven tube amp. Finally, it even makes a good distortion pedal for solid state amps. Ease of use: Easy. Just adjust to your liking.

OK OD

By homeless

from Albuquerque, NM

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

This reissue is a decent Overdrive. My biggest complaint is that is adds lots of mids, which can result in a sort of 'nasally' tone. It can't really be dialed out through the tone knob either. There are some good mods out there to fix that though.. Even though the specs of this one are close to those of the original, it falls short. (Hence the still rediculous prices on the originals.) A decent pedal out of the box.

Creamy,Buttery, Heavenly... !

By David Angel

from Portland, ME

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

I gave it a 5 for value, because for what it does, you won't find another pedal for this price. I play 50's Rock n' Roll so I don't want distortion. I want classic overdrive, just to jump over the rhythm section as I solo. As soon as I plugged this thing in at the store, 4 seconds was all I needed. I bought it. Enough said. If you are looking for rich, thick, creamy, beautiful overdrive, this is the pedal for you. The tone shaping this thing can provide is astounding, it hugs the notes !

Not Heavy Enough

By interstate 3

from los angeles, ca.

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

well, i do not want to bash this product because it does say overdrive. and that is what it is. this is an overdrive pedal made to push your valves into further overdrive creating a sort of fuzzy sound. you will not get heavy fuzz tones here. Ive tried. it has no real bottom end to it and can sound a little transistor radio-like. if i was playing country/blues, it would be fine. but if you want to get more gritty and gutsy, you got to look else where. the only saving grace for me was that i use this pedal along side another bass heavy meatier fuzz pedal to smooth that out. or else i would have returned it.

The real thing?

By Dogstarr1

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

The reissue TS808 Tube Screamer from Ibanez get's very, very close to the original, right down to the odd DC input jack that requires an adapter to work with modern power supllies. So cosmetically, it's a dead ringer (minus the chips and scrathes that any original would have if it has any paint at all). Of course, it's tone we're seeking here and while the purists may claim that it's not exactly reproducing every part of the orginal TS808's signal path, the tone is what you're seeking, all the smooth sustain, the midrange hump the Tube Screamer is known for and the mild, tube-like brakeup of your tone at low gain settings. A great pedal that delivers what it promises, though to truly get the complete SRV/Texas Blues sound, you really need to run 2 of these in series and they sound best that way, a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

The Real Deal!!

By S

from PA

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

There is a reason why so many people still use THIS pedal even in a market flooded with clones, boutique overdrives, and anything else imaginable. It's the real deal. It doesn't need 6 knobs, toggle switches, and selectable operating voltages. It does one thing, and that is overdrive your tone! It can be used on top of a heavily distorted amp for solos, or on a cleaner breakup to add girth and growl. Some may say it's overrated and thats fine. Everyone has an opinion. Why are all the clones based off of an 808 circuit? Why are the vintage TS808s going for hundreds of dollars? Because the TS808 is the best.

It's a bargain!

By Rich

from Pittsburgh

Comments about Ibanez TS808 Vintage Tube Screamer Reissue:

Why do I say that? Go look it up on ebay. The original Tube Screamers go for 3 to 4 times this price. That being said, it MUST be good to justify that kind of price for a pedal... and it is! This is a classic, essential pedal. Throw away your other pedals and get this. You won't be sorry. Just outstanding overdrive. It's been used by some of the best players around.
