Ibanez RG Series RG470AHM 6-String Electric Guitar Blue Moon Burst

Really fun to play. I love the tremolo bar on the bridge, much better sounding than other guitars I have. I really love the color, and how much fun it is to play. May need to invest in some ear plugs.

Clean tones are really impressive. 5 way pickup selection is always nice. Beautiful finish. It is THE heaviest guitar I own. Not a problem for me but it's something to keep in mind.

I'll lay it to you straight, the biggest issue about this guitar is that the bridge mechanism is faulty and progressively sets itself lower and lower automatically causing fret buzzing and unplayability. I purchased this guitar about two years ago and have always had the same problems with it going down the road. No matter how many times I took this guitar to get serviced, the same thing always happened. The floating bridge never stayed in the same place, causing the action to be set lower than normal, initially causing fret buzzing and then eventually making the guitar literally UNPLAYABLE. Also want to note that every time I tried to tune the instrument, tuning the guitar up would also adjust the bridge drastically, setting a non flat angle in either direction. With that on top of the bridge adjustment problems, the guitar becomes impossible to tune. It does have a great tone and great feel, but if I can't play the instrument at all it's an automatic no for me.

A great purchase

I had a good collection of Ibanez rg's and a jem in the 90's but like an idiot as hard rock slipped out of mainstream and I got more work as a bass player I traded and sold the, away and moved to more traditional instruments. Lately I've been wanting to dive bomb a locking tremolo so I decided to get another rg. Went to look at the 550 and 450's and saw this on the wall. The blue moon burst finish with the natural ash body showing on the sides caught my eye and I couldn't believe the price for the finish. The Ash body is really heavy but it ads to the singing tone. I'm really impressed with the tone I'm getting with the quantum pickups they remind me of the classic PAF Pro I used back in the 90's.

Love the look of the guitar, struggled with learning how to set up the locking tremolo (never had one before). Set up blocks solved that problem. I am a Les Paul guy (still have a black custom) but as of the last 13 years or so have just fallen in love with B C Rich guitars (Mockingbird). Love the B C Rich's neck (stays straight as an arrow), and the guitar feels great in my hands! Bought the RG470AHM because of the Floyd Rose and am enjoying playing it a lot more lately. The neck feels a lot wider than my Rich (string spacing) which is taking some getting used to, same with the pickups and learning to use the single coil in the center. Overall, I like the guitar and think it will be getting used a lot more in the future as I become more comfortable with it. Don't like how the maple neck get dirty looking from the black coming off of the strings/fingers but it cleans off fairly well. Do like the Ash body which has a brighter tone than Bass Wood or Alder bodies. I talked with Adam Reiver with FU-Tone and bought a tremolo big brass replacement block and spring claw. They made a world of difference in the tone. He even threw in a set of brass claw screws which I forgot to order for free!! Cleaned up the bottom end and if you can believe it actually brightened up the top end. Seems like the tone control has more of an effect now than before. He's a great guy, helpful, and knows his stuff. If you have a tremolo on your guitar you need to call or text him and talk. These changes helped me start liking the tones of my Ibanez and locking tremolo a heck of a lot more. Overall I think this is a solid mid-range guitar that plays well, the neck is fast, and it begs to be experimented with tonally. There are a lot options with pickups and I have started to try some of Robin Trower's early guitar work on it with the single coil and neck puckups. If you are a rock or metal player and you like the Ibanez RG style of guitars, you won't be disappointed with the RG470AHM!!!
