Without a doubt, your instrument should equal the quality of your effort. At some point the word "boutique" comes to mind: Select-grade materials, neck-thru construction, and top quality components, all in a meticulously crafted instrument. But what about the price? That's where Ibanez comes in. Their ability to build small-shop quality into inspiring yet affordable instruments is showcased by BTB series basses.
The BTB's extra-long 35-inch neck scale offers tight, even tension with no flopping on the low end, and added sustain on the high strings. It also provides superior articulation, making it perfect for 6-strings. Neck-thru construction provides massive sustain and excellent stability.
The BTB's much deeper cutaways allow effortless access to the upper frets. The Mono-Rail bridge delivers the ultimate in string-to-string isolation, meaning that each string vibrates optimally without be affected by the others. BTB's string spacing is 17mm for 6-strings, offering more freedom on the fretboard, and comfortable access for finger picking and slapping.
Nordstrand "Big Single" pickups provide the clarity of single-coil pickups, while the large body gives players a full and aggressive tone. 3-band EQ with mid frequency switch fine-tuned specifically for the BTB. The active 3-band EQ features fully independent bass, treble, and mid controls with a wide boost/cut range. The preamp system is equipped with a mid-frequency select switch, enabling you to instantly select 250Hz and 600Hz - the heart of the mid zone - for a more dynamic and ideal tone. Its Neutrik locking jack provides stable and secure connections, preventing accidental disconnect or shock and vibration.
Includes gig bag.

This is an excellent bass given the price. It looks much better in person. The electronics and active EQ are excellent. Although I did change the pickups on my Bass to US Bartolini split coils. This was not because there was another wrong with the bright active Nordstrand Big Singles. I just prefer the sound of passive deep tone Bartolini pickups. Because the pickups are P4 shape, there are many pickup options available on the market. The bass is comparable in quality to Boutique US made basses that are over twice the price. The body and neck feel great. The string spacing is very comfortable and wider than most other mass produced basses such as the Ibanez Soundgear models. It is also a 35" scale bass, and I have found that E and B strings sound much tighter and better on 35" scale basses. The weight is reasonable at about 10 pounds. The neck is very secure and the fret job is excellent. This is the first bass I have ever owned where there is absolutely no fret noise. I have found that the bass neck and body feel very similar to US made Ken Smith basses. The BTB 1406E is my primary fretted bass.
