You can't go wrong with this bass. I play all genres and can get the tone I want for that specific genre. IMO this is Ibanez best kept secret. Killer slap tones and you can also get that Jaco Pastorius tone. The bass can get pretty bright so you have to watch your EQ settings. It feels really great and looks really nice. For the price you can't go wrong. If you looking for an affordable bass that is very versatile then this is a good bass to look at.
Let me just start by saying I've always been weary of Ibanez. Being a lead guitarist for 8 years, I stuck with Fender for everything. I played Ibanez guitars, and they just weren't for me, the playability and sound just didn't meet my needs. Now, I play a wide array of music, from Miles Davis to Fugazi, Classic Rush and Led Zeppelin to Radiohead. And I needed a bass for jazz band. I had been playing my friends P-Bass for too long. I saw this at a local shop for 250 used in mint condition. I fell in love! The sound is absolutely stunning on all three positions, and can cover any genre you want! It's a really heavy instrument. It has a nice low end to it, with a nice crisp high and punchy mids. This is much better than an American Made P-Bass, and has changed my opinion on Ibanez completely. This bass kicks. It's so nice. If you're looking for a versatile, sturdy, and amazing bass, look no further!
I have one of these ordered and on its way! Can't wait to get it! Ibanez has done a great job with these basses, its construction is just as solid as the tones it produces! I've owned Warwick and Musicman basses and this gale can without a doubt hold her own in the pack, if not lead it!! Smooth and bass'ee to mid/treble growl and bit, the ATK delivers every time no matter if your playing finger style, pick, cords, tapping, makes harmonics sing, and the slap tones! Wow!! One would think this model costs twice if not three times more that it does. Some differences you'll find: 1.Bigger body and wider neck (not the typical Ibanez slim figure). Right around 9.5 lbs so if like lighter basses and /or have a shorter finger reach she might be too much for you to handle.....just sayin'. 2. Body and bridge through stringing option to enhance sustain for each string and a massive bridge that covers 3 or more times the body space than what the average bass bridge does. These two things combined with a big Ash made body, triple coil pickup and active 3 band eq play a major role in its tone production. My only doubt about this bass is that you'll regret buying one....or two lol!
