I first purchased this bass back in 1989. It took me about 12 years to wear out the frets and put divots in the upper pickup near the D and G strings. I have been playing bass for close to 24 years now and have never looked back. This bass is arguably THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK! I replaced it w/ the same around 2002. Unfortunately, it was stolen around X-mas time last year and I just got around to replacing it with (you guessed it) the SAME bass. Sweeter was the fact that this bass has gone down in price! Playing a considerable amount of time, the lightweight body has definitely saved me shoulder-wear yielding countless extra hours of practice w/o tiring. My own experience proves if you know how to play, and run the bass through decent equipment (current setup: SWR 4004 Workingman head, & Ampeg 4x10 cabinet) you're going to sound just as good as plugging in a $1K+ bass. I have played other models, but long-term, this IS my favorite to pick up.
This was my first bass and will be my last. I was very impressed with the quality as well as the price. I have the black one and the finish was great, making it a very attractive bass. The frets were not spaced too far apart, allowing an easy reach for small hands such as mine. The strings that came with the bass were also quite impressive as well, providing a rich tone demonstrating great durability. The body of the bass itself is very durable, as mine has been knocked around by young children and still has not had one dent! Though the GSR200 is priced for a beginner, it certainly isn't just limited for the novice. Whether you've been playing for a day or a decade, this bass will definitely meet or exceed your expectations. I would recommend this bass to all music genres. Plug this baby into a Peavy Combo 115 and you've got yourself a keeper. This is simply the best, and will outplay all others within its range.
I've had this Bass for over a week now and I'm really liking this one. Look= mine is Pearl White looks better than the picture and has a cool transparentcy were it almost looks gray or silverish in some lights. Feel= the neck is not to thick or thin a nice in the middle best for anybodys hands and the fretboard is smooth the frets are even and it is easy to play on. The body is nicely designed and balanced well. Weight= not to heavy which most high end Basses and Guitars are but not light, it's got just enough heft to it. Hardware= in place and assembled for easy ajustment the Headstock has good string placement and has one great feature to ajust the Trust Rod you simply flip the center of the plastic cover, no screwdriver needed. The pick-ups sound nice I like the dual P and J it gives you lots of options. The Knobs are put together well and the Phat Bass Boom which I didn't care for is one of my favorites cause it allows you to put on any string gauge and by a slight turn give you a nice low end smooth ring or low end punch I really like the versatility. The Bridge is no problem and easy for any ajustments but set up well. The Imput Jack is tight no cords coming loose or out, strap notches are standard but strap lockes are better, strings are medium guage which have a heavy sound but the ones that come on I'm not a big fan of. I say put on what works for you and go. All and all good Bass I would say this is a pretty nice begginer/intermediate or solid back up if you need one and don't want to spend to much. Thanks for baring with me, enjoy yours if you got it or try this one out!
