I bought this bass guitar a few days ago and over all it's not a bad instrument. I like the blue finish and the twenty two frets and the bass boost effect. The bridge pickup isn't as bright as like the fender jazz bass though. But I like the split coil neck pickup. Usually I like guitars & basses to have their jacks on the front side of the body, but I like it on this bass. This bass needs a nine volt battery for the pickups & EQ's to work so that's a small problem, but in my experience with this bass I find it's best to use a Hyvee brand battery because it fits better than other brands because others don't seem to fit to make the bass work.

Horrible Bass

By Parker

from Cincinnati, OH

Less than 3 months after buying this bass, I noticed a horrid amount of fret buzz, and a strange crackling sound coming from my amp. On top of this, 3 frets on the D string all play the same exact pitch. Not joking. After several setups, the problems were still apparent. I replaced the output jack, and the crackling was fixed, but this bass still plays awfully. My advice is to save up a few hundred more dollars and buy a better used bass.

Cant beat it. Buy this!

By Zach Hanson

from Menominee, MI

I've had this bass for about 4 years and it has never let me down. The neck is amazingly thin and easy to play. Frets are spaced nicely. The pickups allow you to get so many great tones out of this. From real poppy highs to chest bumping lows using the bass boost nob. This is the lightest bass i have ever played, period. I love it being that i play 4-5 hour bar gigs. It really saves on the shoulder. And this bass is durable, believe me. Mine took a fall, strings down, from the tailgate of a truck onto blacktop. Didn't hurt a thing. Literally only like 3 one millimeter scratches in the finish. I was amazed. Over all i love this bass. I would recommend this to any level of player. You cant beat it for the price.

Fantastic beginner bass

By Nickolas Brown

from Houston, Tx

I bought this bass around June 2012 and I have got to say that it is absolutely astounding for the price. A great sound, only a little hissing, a thin and quick neck, and pretty lightweight. If you're looking for a beginner bass or even looking to reinvigorate your sound, go with this bass.

The Toyota Corolla of Bass guitars

By Johnathan Burgoyne

from Tucson,AZ

My friend picked up a Steinberger bass a few years ago and was urging me to pick up a bass so we could jam and learn together. 2 years ago I decided to start looking for something inexpensive to learn on and came across this bass on craigslist for $150 including a line 6 amp and stand. I replaced the strings with some Dean Markley Skullbusters. Bought a Digitech bp90 for dirt cheap from a guy going overseas to serve our country and I haven't been disappointed. Upon playing it for the first time my buddy said "Wow, this has some great action and a really smooth neck compared to my Steiny. This is a cool bass. You got a great deal!" That meant a lot seeing he is a bit of a bass elitist and despises anything Ibanez. I'm a hobbyist so I use this to jam along with the drum machine most of the time and also use it to play Rocksmith on the PS3. I play at least an hour every day and besides loose knobs and a tuner nut coming loose, I've had no problems. Even with my skills improving over the past couple years I really can't see myself ever needing anything more than this. Maybe a 5 string eventually, but I'll probably get one of those from the GSR series as well. It stays in tune for months at a time. The action is still set at the factory spec at the bridge and nut without me having to mess with it. It does look like the truss rod could use a tiny bit of adjustment to add some relief to the neck due to the thicker gauge strings. The bridge pickup can be a bit hissy at times but I can usually take care of that by messing with the knobs and some swear words. I like that the headstock doesn't look like a Fender hockey stick type. The finish has held up well. I rarely clean it and only oil the frets when I change strings which isn't very often. It's not a bad looking bass but it's not gonna stand out in a crowd. Has what I would describe as "The girl next door" appearance. Average. This one has the jewel blue finish that looks black in the right lighting. The only issues I've had is when it comes to slapping, popping, and tapping. It will do it but it comes across kinda twangy or metallic. I just can't seem to really get it to resonate correctly. Most likely I just lack the skill or the pickups are lacking. Really doesn't bother me much cause I tend to play more bluesy doom metal type stuff. I don't think labeling it as a beginner or intermediate bass is really appropriate. It's more like a middle of the road workhorse. It doesn't sound badly in any style but it doesn't stand out as great either. Just enough of a "WOW" factor to keep ya coming back. It's like that trusty old late 90's Toyota Corolla your Mom drives with 200k+ miles on it. The one you make excuses to take out just so you can go spin backwards donuts in a dirt lot somewhere. It just keeps going no matter what type of beating you put on it. If you just wanna play or learn to play and you're not an ego maniac I'd highly recommend this daily driver.

First and Best

By Payton Dziekan

from Greenvill, SC

I started playing the upright bass about two years ago. I wanted to start playing the electric bass as an add on to my school music class. I bought this bass in the red, and it looks much cooler than online. It has a great sound, and it's stylish the tone is great! I can't wait to show my strings teacher this bass! :)

Great begginer bass.

By Taylor Isham

from El Paso, TX

This is a great bass in general. I got it around 5 months ago. I played in 3 bands with this bass, one metal, one A7X cover band, and my church band; and it worked amazingly! its such a good beginer bass, so you can learn about bass and how they should feel. i am a really good bassist now, and im looking for a new bass. but i will always give my bass succes to this bass. If you are a beginer, than buy this bass. but if you are already a bass player and already own a bass, i wouldnt recomend it. look for other ibanez basses, or peavy, or schecter, godin, etc. good begginer bass. THANKS IBANEZ!

what a deal

By DAN MYERS

from Combine, TX

I found a used one of these online at this site for $79. It took 4 days to arrive, and I wasn't sure what to expect. It was extremely well packed, I don't think ups could have damaged it if they tried. I examined it top to bottom and I have to say that Guitarcenter really knows thier stuff, it's like new. It also had a strap from the previous owner. Thanks, my daughter will love learning on this quality instrument.

A Great Value

By Alan Brandle

from Burlington, NJ

I had an old GSR-100 that I had fooled around with but never got interested in. A buddy of mine who is in a local band asked if he could borrow it for awhile so I loaned it to him. He ended up playing the bass in that band as well as joining another. Long story short he also plays acoustic guitar and sings/writes as well. He got me interested in playing bass so he had someone to hold up the bottom while he did that. I went to the GC in Langhorne PA just to look around and play some basses. I picked up some medium high end Fender and Ibanez basses and liked the GSR-500's but I kept coming back to this red GSR-200. Ok red isn't what I would have gone for but the setup was absolutely perfect and the sound was fantastic plugged into anything. So I bought it and a hardshell case for less than the cost of a new one. I recommend a good wide strap as this guitar gets heavy after awhile but you can't find a nicer sounding or playing bass for two or three times as much. Well built, durable, attractive with an active eq. The Ibanez line has a nice narrow neck that just feels right though they DO differ slightly so play a few different ones to see which profile you like. You won't be disappointed if you pick up one of these.

Mini Blaster

By Lorenzo

I gotta give this little guy it's props. It truly is a great base. Not just in relation to it's price. I can hold it's own next to any other base. I'm satisfied with my purchase.
