This is my favorite player (A/D) but I don't do blues. This one is a fantastic tremolo harp ideally suited to hymns and folk tunes. You just have to hear one to understand the richness of the tone. The wooden combs and bell metal reeds combine for a sound that is so rich you have to see it to not think you're hearing a large musette accordion. It sounds great doing German and French folk tunes - they just sound as if they belong. It answers to the slightest air in either direction but will tolerate a large breath as well without altering pitch (not a good thing if you play blues - great if you play folk styles). The range of dynamics possible makes being more musical that much easier. The construction is solid (as is proven by examples nearly 100 years old still in use) but nails on wood makes it a bit harder to work on if you decide you need to take it apart or if you want to do customizing on it. At this price range, you'll not want to pick it up as a first or beginner harp. The echo/tremolo sound isn't for everyone or for every type of music so you'll want to be sure this is what you're looking for. It's also not exactly what most lesson materials are teaching to so it's better for intermediate players or those beginners that know for certain that tremolo harp is what they have in mind. If that fits your needs, you can't go wrong with the 54/64 in either A/D or C/G.

  • If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

I was given one of these for Christmas when I was 15...that was 1963. I was amazed when I saw the picture of the harp beside its box, because it was like looking at mine beside its visible change that I could detect. At any rate , I have thoroughly enjoyed this instrument for close to 47 years. It sounds as beautiful now as it did when I first took it out of the box, and it has never required any maintenance or parts. If only everything could be this reliable...
