Overview

Since 1983, Gibson USA has been proving not only that less is sometimes more, but also that less can sometimes knock your socks off – when it comes in the form of the popular no-nonsense Les Paul Studio model, at least. Originally designed as a model for studio artists but adopted wholeheartedly by countless players of all stripes, the 2013 Les Paul Studio combines stripped-down appointments with the full tonal splendor and unrivaled playability of a Les Paul Standard.

All the elements of the legendary Les Paul Standard are still there, including that fat and sweet maple-and-mahogany tone through two genuine Gibson humbucking pickups. By eliminating a little of the window dressing – namely, building the guitar without binding around the body top or fingerboard, and applying an elegant gold silkscreened logo in place of an inlay – the Les Paul Studio weighs in at a price that players have found irresistible for three decades. It also physically weighs less. The mahogany body comes with “modern” weight relieving that is carefully applied inside the mahogany back to provide outstanding balance while optimizing the sonic capabilities of the guitar.

Crucial elements of the Les Paul Studio’s design include the carved maple top and mahogany body, glued-in mahogany neck with back-angled headstock, granadillo fingerboard, Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece – all design points that have been making Les Pauls the most desirable tone monsters available since the late 1950s. For electronics, a set of Gibson’s 498T and 490R Alnico humbucking pickups squeeze every drop of tone from the instrument, and now feature coil-taps for an even broader range of tonal possibilities.

With these classic ingredients, the Les Paul Studio gives you all the sonic versatility you could ask for, from sultry, warm bluesy tones to powerful crunch to sizzling lead tones. Finally, the Les Paul Studio is supremely playable too, thanks to its slim-taper 60's neck profile and a chambered mahogany body that reduces the weight while enhancing resonance, making it outstandingly comfortable strapped on or seated. Includes case.

Good Guitar, but some issues. Read before you buy.

By Peyton Stewart

from Kentucky

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

The pickups are great playing everything from jazz to heavy metal. The guitar is pretty heavy, but that has always been something to expect with a Les Paul. Although, it's been a great guitar for me, it has had some issues. You really need strap locks with this guitar. As soon as I got it, I put a strap on and was playing and it just fell on the ground. Also, the chord jack on the bottom of the guitar very commonly comes loose and falls off. This is a typical issue among guitars, and is an easy fix, but it can be annoying. Most recently, the nut messed up somehow, and everytime I would bend the G string, it would go in the E strings slot. I have never had this happen before in any of my 11 guitars. When I emailed Gibson support, my warranty had ran out and I have to pay for the part and the repair out of my pocket. Not really complaining about that, but it may take a bit of time for me to replace it. Overall an affordable Gibson, that just has a few flaws.

Gibson Les Paul studio

By Randall Lowe

from Butler, mo

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

i purcnased this guitar in 05/2013. I have been playing guitar since young, and have owned a '82 showroom Fender strat.,Copy of the Gibson S.G.,and played numerous instrument's. The sonic capabililities, and sustain on this guitar is really great, as are all most Gibson guitar's. The Granadillo fingerboard is a little chimey, but sounds great. Good deep drive ,and tone. If you lack money for a standard or custom, this is a quality guitar for the money. It's a studio guitar, as the name implies. r. Lowe

It's a Paul...quit whining!

By Kevin Todd

from Middlesex, NJ

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

Out of the box, all guitars need a setup. Gibson gives you a card with all of the necessary info on setting up your guitar. If you aren't mechanically inclined, you have to shell out the cash. To me, to know your guitar you must know and understand everything about it and setting it up is a great way to introduce yourself to the instrument. I have 3 Pauls, 2 Es's, 6 Fenders, and 3 PRS's....I do all of the mechanics on every one and enjoy it. As for the Studio, I love it's playability and no-nonsense construction. It plays and sounds incredible. You want the real thing? Quit shelling out cash for lesser guitars and save a few hundred more....you'll be so happy you did!

Silver Pearl

By Frank M Miller

from Miramar, FL

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

I ordered the Gibson Les Paul 2012 Studio Silver Pearl from Somesh at the Hallandale, FL Guitar Center. Somesh was extremely helpful and was a true professional. This was the first guitar I have ever purchased. The Silver Pearl finish is brilliant, clean, sharp, and conservative. Not sure why it is priced much less expensive than the other finishes. Words that come to mind when looking at this guitar in person and playing it are: masterpiece of guitar engineering (if there is such a word), solid (but light), meticulous attention to detail, pride in workmanship, quality of materials, serious design. I am proud to own it.

Nice-exceeds claims

By WILLIAM BURNS

from Livingston, Al

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

I just received the Silver Pearl last week! The Coil Tapping produces a much better single coil tone than the coil Splitting. In the humbucker mode the pickups sing. I play through a Deluxe Reverb and the tone is wonderful. I also play through a Blues Jr, and get nice overdrive. I have a Bugera 5 amp for practice and thsi guitar seems well suited for it. I am very pleased!! Barry Green-Burns

Best guitar I've owned

By Jared Scoggins

from Oklahoma

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for about a year and a half mostly self taught during a vacation I decided to go into guitar center with a wallet full of cash and my eyes set on going out with a stratocaster after playing seven stratocasters and trying an SG and a flying V I saw out of the corner of my eye a black Les Paul studio after trying it for quite some time I knew I HAD to have this guitar after a few minutes of chatting with the courteous staff in nashville I got to walk with my guitar before I had it I played on a clean only amp as soon as I plugged this beauty in the pick ups drove this amp to becoming a monster and playing some nice rock tone on a small 30w solid state amp meant for clean playing only but the rhythm pick setting put the clean tone back in but sounded 100x better I was a stratocaster player only but now I'm a coverted les paul lover get this guitar and you will have it for life and it will only play better and better with proper care and love

Very nice gear but has a construction failure

By Juan Salvador Morales Gil

from Mexico City, Mexico.

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

The guitar arrived one day after the scheduled date to the Hollywood Store, nonetheless I had spare time, so that was not a problem. This is a very nice guitar with great sound and nice playability. Unfortunately, it needs a setup adjustment and I will be taking it to my luthier on the next weekend. Besides, I am not sure if the bridge is screwed directly in the body of the guitar or if has to go inside an anchor that the guitar is missing. This is the reason that I don't give the instrument the five star rating. I recommend this product but with a word of caution: if possible, inspect the instrument thoroughly, and I stress the word thoroughly.

A Masterpiece

By Ian O'Kelly

from Arvada, Colorado

Comments about Gibson 2013 Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar:

After saving for months, I was recently gifted this guitar for my birthday, and have barely put it down since. The Fireburst color scheme is breathtaking, and makes it a unique piece in my collection. The versatility of the tone and coil tap knobs allow this guitar to replicate nearly any sound, something that a Strat has no capability of. Even without effects pedals or any distortion and reverb, it has a wonderful sound.
