i play hardcore/metal and i always wanted to achieve that punchy click sound you hear in recordings,,, i definitely recommend this and if youre going to go all the way, go ahead and buy hard wood beaters. i love these things and i've had it for a few months now, hasn't given me any problems. makes bass sound a lot more distinct.

MAX your ATTACK

By Gregory

from Kalamazoo, Mi

This review is about the adhesive patches with hard plastic or metal disks inside of them. This product is useful for increasing the attack of your bass drum. This is helpful in musical situations where you need a lot of clarity, such as fast 16th note patterns or intense metal. The impact pad is distinct for its ability to provide attack or clarity while still allowing the drum to resonant, giving that "fat" sound. This combination is impossible to achieve with conventional muffling (pillows and such). A lot of people make a big mistake when they put one of these pads on their drum. People don't realize that the pad muffles the drum significantly more than a Falam slam or some other fabric patch. As such, people will often put a lot of muffling in their bass drums to get that punchy sound, then bring home one of these pads and just slap it on there without changing the interior muffling. THIS WILL VASTLY OVER-MUFFLE YOUR BASS DRUM AND MAKE IT SOUND LIKE A TUPPERWARE CONTAINER. What you need to do is take out all of your old muffling (pillows, blankets, etc) and add smaller amounts of muffling to find the tone you want. This is much easier if you have a porthole in your resonant head. My personal setup includes the patch, masking tape to hold it on (I'll talk about that later), about 6 balls of crumpled-up paper bag (very little muffling), and a porthole. If you put a pillow in the drum and an impact pad on the head, your drum will most likely sound like garbage. Now the reason I give this product 4 stars is that I had trouble making it stay attached to the head. I cleaned the head, let it dry, applied the pad, then stacked books on it and left it overnight. I came back the next morning, hit the drum about four times, and it fell off. Remedy this problem by placing four strips of clear masking tape around the perimeter of the pad (do not put the tape where the beater hits; it will melt the tape and make a mess!!). One other thing to note is that if you allow the beater to rest against the head after playing a note (burying the beater), the beater will bounce around on the hard plastic and make an annoying rattly sound. Remedy this by keeping the beater off the head after playing a note. This can be rather difficult if you are inexperienced. Good luck!

Gibraltar double kick pad

By SABINO LAGATTOLLA _

from Hudson, MA

I've used this model exclusively for 5 years. Love everything about it. My sound guy(bassist) loves the fact that he can get my kick to click AND boom. The only downside to this is that it starts to rip and detach after a few months, but, that's due to the fact that I use the plastic side of my beaters, and I kick hard... VERY hard. No harm done. It's not expensive to replace. I won't use anything else.

Not Worth It

By Patrick Beaudoin

from Clifton Park NY

I bought one of these pads, and it sucks. The beater response was terrible. It was way too bouncy off of the pad, and it made me feel like I had no control of my pedals. It fell off the head within the first hour of playing, and the "click" was more of a high pitched thud more than anything. My suggestion is to spend a little extra coin, and get a Danmar Metal Click pad.

Great for the price

By Bradley H.

from Virginia Beach, VA

I love this pad, it protects the head great. It puts out a great heavy metal clicking sound, but it does have some negatives. After eight months of playing, the pad does fall off occasionally and the sticky side is extremely difficult to clean. Also, the right beater sounds great but the left is a lot softer, not as clicky. Now playing and listening to music or if you have headphones on, it is completely unnoticeable but it does stand out if you are playing slow double bass without ear protection. Regardless, I would purchase this pad again in a second.

works wonders!!!

By Hollyfire's Drummer

from chapel hill, NC

Aight, so i LOVE a good clicky metal bass drum sound and i never really got it using the Danmar click pad cause it vibrates against the head and it sounds weird!!! so i picked this sucker up and mic'd up my bass drum using a port hole method. Using some treble boost and low-mid lowering it sounded like the best bass drum ever. sounds as if i used a premium trigger with the best MIDI controller ever! so if u want the only amazing click pad for all ur hard core double bass needs, two words, GET THIS!

THE ONLY WAY TO FLY

By Hellbilly Deluxe

from Denver,CO

Had this on my Evans EMAD and loved it. It wore out after about a year, and I decided to try the cordura type Evans beater pads as replacements. Bad choice. The difference in the amount the bass drum cuts through the mix in a live setting is astounding. Would recommend this to any and all drummers, and from now on, I will use nothing else.

Awesome

By saxmanlv

from Las Vegas, NV

I just bought a PDP DP402 double bass pedal and was disappointed with the way it sounded and the feel of the beaters on the drum head, I figured I'd try looking for a bass pad like this and see if it helped. I was blown away with how well the pad deadened the drum and gave it more of a punchy "Korn" kind of sound. It makes the bass drum incredibly sensitive due to the metal plates inside it and if you have a ported resonant head it doubles the effect. I wanna buy some wooden beaters now and see what that sounds like!

Super nifty

By BrianT

from Saint louis, MOj

I really like this impact pad. Probably the best that I have ever used. If you are into metal/death metal, this is the pad for your double bass pedals. It doesn't have the normal sound like the regular pads, this thing gives the pedals a more clicking sound but still produces a deep hit. definitly would buy this product even if you aren't into playing heavier metal music.
