About G&L:
G&L guitars and basses represent the culmination of Leo Fender's experience as a master luthier. Before his death, he acknowledged G&L instruments as "the best instruments I ever made." Guitar Center offers several time-honored models including guitars and basses from the G&L Legacy, Comanche, Tribute, ASAT, and other lines. If you love master craftsmanship combined with traditional styling, G&L guitars and basses are for you.
G&L Guitars was founded in the 1970s when Leo collaborated with long-time business partners George Fullerton and Dale Hyatt. The G and L come from the initials of George (Fullerton) and Leo (Fender). Hyatt joined the team later as the marketing strategist for the company. G&L was the last company Leo founded, dedicating a couple decades to its growth and continuing his life work of designing and producing instruments.

The first G&L instruments were based on innovations to classic Fender instruments. G&L put its own spin on instrument design, incorporating Leo's artistic vision and engineering wizardry. Over time, the G&L name built a solid reputation as hot-rod instruments with modern innovations, becoming the top choice of countless musicians and collectors.
After Leo Fender's death in 1991, Fender's wife Phyllis passed the management on to John C. McLaren of BBE Sound, while remaining an Honorary Chairperson. To this day, G&L engineers keep Leo Fender's legacy in mind when it comes to changing instrument design. "Leo Fender was a symbol of change and evolution for the benefit of musicians. But for any change that is considered, we must first ask ourselves, 'Would Leo have wanted it this way?' If yes, then we do it. If not, then we will not. We always want to feel that Leo Fender would be proud of today's G&L," says company chairman John C. McLaren.
