Tex Mex Single Coils are Sweeeeet!

By Slide $$$

from California

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

Overwound, but only a little, these babies sing with crystal clarity and all the chime and bloom that Strat lovers love. A little known fact: these are almost the same pickups as the Texas Specials, but they are actually just-a-bit hotter and half the price!!! THIS is what a Strat is supposed to sound like... now go get 'em!

Amazing Pickups, Especially Considering the Price

By 01GT Eibach

from Austin, TX

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

I replaced the OEM ceramics in my MIM Standard Stratocaster. I have had them in for about six months now, so I have lived with them for quite a bit. I think they positively scream. They have lots of "accurate" Strat tones, along with being quite hot. These pickups love overdrive, but sing very well with a nice clean tone, too. Your Strat will sound very much like a Strat with these babies. These pickups can do the heavy stuff like Halen/ Satriana/ Vai very well, but probably not the best for death metal tones. And the price?? Nothing in this price range is in the ballpark in my opinion. The well-accepted notion is that these are made to the same spec as the Fender Custom Shop "Texas Specials", except are made in Mexico -- differing only in the components used and the manufacturing method to make them. So if you wanted Texas Specials but was put off by the price, then these are REALLY your pickups, for sure. There is nothing even vaguely bad or questionable. Can you tell I really like them??

A fantastic upgrade- very pleased

By Gabriel Becker

from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

when upgrading a strat for blues most go for the texas specials (which are nice pickups) but for some reason, the tex-mex pickups are chosen less. I've played both, and I'd like to say that for the money,.....the tex mex are the way to go. There ARE differences between the texas specials and tex mex, but those differences are very minimal. they both use the same alnico magnets, and both add a "gritty & crisp" sound. The main difference is that texas specials are made in the USA, and tex mex are made in Mexico. The tex mex pickups are less than half the price of the texas specials. I recently upgraded a MIM strat with the tex-mex pickups. All I can say is WOW! sharp, crisp, round, and when cranked up a bit very gritty. The improvement over standard pickups is staggering. The fender MIMs are nice instruments, but after a proper setup and the installation of these tex mex pups, my strat is much more comparable to high end USA strat in the $1,500 price range. I would recomend this upgrade to ANYONE. you won't regret it.

Great Classy Bluesy Clean Tone at an afordable price

By Josh

from Chicago, Illinois

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

These come standard on my Fender American Standard Strat HSS, and they are fantastic. They have a great, glassy, classic Strat tone that are great for blues. But they are also real versatile, I love 'em with overdrive too, which gives you a great, Texas Blues sound, which I guess is good because of its title. They can easily contenc with the Custom Shop models like the Texas Specials. If I could, I'd get one for the Bridge to complete my set rather than the Humbucker, but still, great great pickups. If you want nice, clean, clear, classic Strat tone, but have a budget, get these pickups, even if you can spend all the money in the world, get these pickups. Great stuff.

All the Texas You Can Handle

By Christopher Heady

from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

I was skeptical about these pick-ups and the reviews others left about them. Now I highly recommend them. Here is Why: I did as much research as I could comparing the USA Texas Specials and these Tex Mex Pickups, and I found that they were nearly identical. I pulled the trigger and bought a set, then loaded them in my home brew strat and they rocked my socks off!!! THE BEST sounding strat that I have ever played!!! I totally recommend these to everyone. The bridge pickup screams, the middle pickup yields beautifully, and the neck pickup is so sweet. I used to only use to use the 2 and 4 positions on strats, but now I use all five positions just to be able to heart the full range of these beauties!

tex mex

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

well they are pretty good pickups for the money if you have a mim strat this is a slight upgrade i noticed these pickups perform well on clean channels they buzz like normal single coil pickups.to be honest if you want an upgrade and you dont like your sound i suggest going texas specials if you already have the money. there is just to little a difference but a difference there is one. out of the box these are signifigantly over wound compared to stock mim they dont make my amp crackle anymore. and you can get nice harmonics

Sounds right

By Tee

from Maine

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

I've used Am Made 'Texas Specials' and prefer these 'Tex-Mex' pick-ups better. They are less muddy, with a slightly 'Hi-Fi' flavor to them. To my ears they are help a strat sound like a strat should..with lots of 'oomph' when tirned up and clarity at lesser volumns...very usable...

Very Nice

By Ron Smith

from alexandria VA

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

So, first I should say that I am a Les Paul guy. So, I bought a cheaper Strat style guitar for a little variety. I wasn't in love with the tone...till I got these. What a difference. Plug this in, turn up the gain, and you are ready to crank out Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jackyl, Skynyrd, etc. The crunch is amazing. I may have to go out and by an actual Fender now...

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

Replaced American Standard pickups with these. They are louder and brighter. The response is tighter too. Pretty much the same as far as single coil hum. You get noise cancelling with the 2 and 4 position like the standard pickups. Overall a great upgrade.

what a difference!

By jeepster260

from detroit, mi

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

I have a 30 year old Lotus Strat knockoff (I'll wait for the laughing to die down) and I am happy to say I have upgraded since then. Anyway, I wanted to give the guitar to a friends son, but couldn't with the horrible electronics on it, so I bought these pickups and all Fender upgrades to go with it (cts pots, fender 5 way stitch, output jack) all totaled about $100 bucks. Worth every penny!!! It sounds as good as my american 52 tele reissue! (seriously!) if you have any experience in soldering you can do this project. And there are lots of support downloads on fender.com to help as well. Only warrning: if you are upgrading a non-Fender ax with Fender parts be read for a little "tweaking" to make everything fit; a dremel tool with small routing blade worked very well for this. One more suggestion; is you are upgrading pickups on a junker, upgrade ALL electronics, you won't be sorry!!

Promising

By Jim

from lima, oh

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

These sound amazing in my MIM Fender. I've never heard the real texas specials but after reading reviews on these a went ahead and got these. I consider myself a novice guitar player but I think my guitar sounds just as good as any strat out there. Some of my more experienced friends agree. If money is no issue for you, buy the expensive ones. If you like a lot of bang for your buck, don't be afraid to give these a shot, you'll be glad you did.

Killer upgrade

By Walter J

from las vegas

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

I picked up a new Squier Affinity Strat for a project guitar and ordered the Tex Mex pups and new Fender pots ( no hum like the stock pups did ) and I tell you what if you weren't looking at the guitar you would think it was a USA Fender strat with Tex Mex pups, the guitar was like one in 10k that I didn't have to do any filing to the fret ends they were so smooth, the tuners actually work great too, for being stock Squier they stay in tune no slop at all and I hardtailed the tremolo to stop High E string breakage but still have use of the tremolo bar, so if you have a project guitar you cant beat these pups at $99.00 for the set they are well worth getting if you want that real vintage style tone.

Comments about Fender Tex Mex Pickups set of 3:

Got a great deal on this set of Tex Mex pickups. Bought a beat up strat body guitar for 35 bucks and turned it into a monster with these pickups, new tuners, saddles and nut. Turned a cheap import into a real tone monster with these upgrades and the Tex Mex pickups make the guitar sound like a genuine USA texas style stratocaster.
