Best price, incredible guitar, just as good as Fender's American made counterparts!

By Louis Farah

from Burbank, Ca

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

Found the lowest price at another online nusic outlet and Guitar Center matched it without debate. Being a long-time musician playing in a successful casual band, I was a little hesitant about buying anything less than an American-made Fender product. I had been playing the same P-Bass that I bought new in 1972 and because of its value and collectibility, I decided to put the old girl to rest rather than continue to use it on the road. Today's music requires a bass guitar that can emulate a variety of sounds, so I made the decision to buy a Fender Jazz Bass that could provide a wider spectrum of sounds in the music that my band plays, which ranges from the 70's to today's top 40 hits. The new Fender Geddy Lee Jazz basses are built in Mexico. Not America, not Japan. I figured for a reissue Fender guitar built in Mexico, how much could I expect? My expectations were certainly not high considering the fact that an American made Jazz Bass was at least $1,5000 or more. I came home, pulled out the guitar and within the first two minutes, it simply blew me away. I am 60-years-old musician and I've played in cover bands since 1966. I own 10 guitars, all Amercian made. Telecasters, Stratocasters, Les Paul, P-Bass, 5 string Jazz bass, Ricky 12 string, etc. etc. blah, blah, blah. This guitar is right up there with the best of them. The Geddy Lee Jazz Bass that I bought played perfectly right out of the box. No set-up was needed. It weighs just as much as an American Jazz Bass: Heavy wood, full of tone with tons of sustain and volume. The quality was unmatched in every respect. It plays like a dream with the thin neck, maple fretboard and the finish is spot-on. The hardware is just as good as the rest of the Fender product line. Fender has come a long way in improving the quality of it's reissue products, and this Geddy Lee Jazz Bass is proof of that. Usually one looks past any imperfections if the rest of the guitar is satisfactory in other respects, but this guitar was impressive without any imperfections. The guitar is great, but so was the service that I got from the sales staff at the Sherman Oaks Guitar Center. The guitar needed to be ordered because I wanted the 3-tone sunburst finish. The salesman said it would be about a week to get it because I ordered it just before the Holiday weekend. The guitar was in the store four days later. I got the conformation on my order directly from Fender one hour after I left the store. Four days later I got an email that the guitar had arrived at the store. TWO MINUTES after I got the email, the salesman called to say the guitar was there. Imagine that in today's world: A high quality guitar sold at an extremely reasonable price by a music store with service that is unsurpassed. Certainly a rarity in today's business would. Maybe that's why I have been buying my gear from the Guitar Center since the early 1970's. Cone to think of it, I bought my 1972 P-Bass from the Guitar Center!

Unreal!

By MICHAEL EDELL

from Tampa, Florida

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

I have to say, this is the happiest I've ever been with any instrument purchase I ever made, except, of course, for my 71' Hammond B-3. In a word, this bass is "Killer". I've owned many different makes and models as well, but I was always looking for that MM type sound. I am a purist at heart so I didn't want a Marcus Miller bass. I hate the way they look and I played one (5-str) once when I was sitting in with another band. I hated the way it played and sounded. In it's defense, however, I did not have a chance to noodle with settings or action. Anyway, I have read a lot about '70s Jazz Bass pickup spacing but I did not want to spend $2400 for a '74 Vintage. After all, I just spent $1800 on a 2012 American Deluxe Jazz Bass V. Although I like it a lot, it just does not have the sound I was looking for. So, I traded in my 2001 ADJBV for the Geddy Lee which is basically a '72. Most of what I'm playing today doesn't really require a 5-str anyway. To my disappointment, the first Geddy Lee I received, had a defective bridge pickup. So, I had to order another one which was perfect. Also, I was expecting a MIJ but received a MIM. Not to worry... I just had to tweak the truss rod a bit and adjust the intonation on the G string. I am totally blown away by the sound (anything from Marcus to Jaco) and playability of this bass. The "fit & finish" are excellent as well. It is MORE than worth every penny. I love this bass... so much so, that is is now my "goto"...

Lowest action you can get without any fret buzz.

By Don Howell

from Indianapolis, IN.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

Finally, I purchased a Getty Lee MIJ Jazz bass. Most reviews rate this above the one's made in the US. I bought my used at GC the day it showed up...only wish I could afford a new one...so...I live with a few scratches. I always wanted this bass due to the neck design. I don't like Fenders in general, too overpriced, and I never liked the feel of the neck, even on US made jazz. BUT, the Geddy Lee MIJ Jazz has the perfect neck, thin, straight as an arrow, and capable of the lowest action possible without fret buzz. As I said, I bought this for the neck. I did not like the tone, and was very dissapointed in the sound all together. After weeks of research on the Web, I switched out the stock fender single coil pups for DiMarzio split coil Ultra Jazz pups. And bang, it all came together. Best tone I've ever heard, and if I bought a 2nd bass, it would be another GL Jazz and I would install the same pickups. If you like the neck, but not crazy about the tone, don't worry, I highly recommend this bass!!!

unbelievable neck, quality craftsmanship

By Bill Rogers

from Harrisburg, PA

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

I have owned this bass for 6 years and it makes me smile every time I open the case and pick it up to play. Never had a single problem with it- still looks new, stays in tune very well, thin neck is a joy to play, and its got that AWESOME growl that is the signature Geddy Lee sound! As soon as you pick this bass up, you can feel the care the craftsmen put in to building it. Fit and finish are top notch. I bought a 1978 Rickenbacker 4001 to get that Geddy sound, but this Fender gives me that great sound and I'm able to play so much faster and smoother due to the neck. I own 4 basses and I can tell you that this one will never be sold or traded. You will not be disappointed with this bass or with your purchase from GC. Bought mine from my local GC and it was set up beautifully and has needed no maintenance or adjustments at all. Only minor complaint I have, and this IS minor-- the single coil pickups can hum if you keep the strings open with a bit of volume. I keep a hand on the strings between songs and that keeps it as quiet as my humbucker equipped basses. I play this bass weekly in church and get many compliments on the tuxedo bass appearance and the great sound. This thing is worth much more than its price. Buy it and fall in love!

Nice Bass

By Mark Dazley

from Draper, UT

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

Hey, If it's good enough for Geddy...it's good enough for me! Nice sound, nice action, and a nice price. Fun to play! The only problem I've had with it is the soldering for the cable jack didn't hold and I had to get it re-worked. No big deal.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

Just received it today, so far I'm impressed. The fit and finish are similar to my US models. It sounds great, bright and very strong pickups. The action is set very low and just picked it out of the box and was comfortable with it. I will play it out Sunday and see how it runs.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

Folks, let me start out by saying that I am a former professional drummer and have limited experience on the bass. However, I spent years locking tight with bass players to creat a solid foundation for the band and I know what sounds right. This bass guitar is a beauty.
I was originally going to buy a standard jazz bass MIM. But I saw this and had to check it out. One of things that sold me on this bass was that it came with Geddy's high mass bridge. For all intent and purposes it is a Leo Qwan bridge which Geddy has on his #1. It really makes a difference in the sustain, it just keeps going and going. Also, the bridge just looks good... big and meaty.
The neck plays like butter and the black binding and blocks on the fretboard just sets this bass apart appearance wise. The pups are solid, I might change those out one day...but honestly they sound great.
This is a really well built bass and I completely reccomend you buy this bass.
Also, thanks to Alan at GC Tampa for his patience with me while I was looking and trying out different basses. Great customer service.

Comments about Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass:

This bass is awesome. I'm a professional golfer by trade so I know good equipment makes a huge difference. I bought a Squire Modified Vintage 70's bass a couple years ago trying to save a few bucks. Although that's a great bass, I should have gotten this then. I haven't been able to put it down. The feel is great and I love the sound. I play with a sans amp tech 21 bass preamp and get so many different sounds it's unbelievable. Straight to my amp is fine too. It was pretty much ready to go out of the box. A minor truss adjustment to get the action the way I like it and it was all good. My golf is going to suffer, because playing this is more fun at the moment. It's a shame you can only give 5 stars, I would give it more
