Comments about Ernie Ball 8-String Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 10-74:

Purchased two packs in house, under $20 shipped. Delivery was on point. About a week later I open one pack to find the 10 was corroded. I'll avoid making assumptions, for the 2nd pack was fine. Strung 'er up, set the action, aaand, presto. Just like I remembered, good 'ol Ernie Ball...

Comments about Ernie Ball 8-String Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 10-74:

I keep seeing reviews about these strings being too heavy gauge. Silly guys. This is the skinny top/heavy bottom gauge for heavy players and down tuning. Yet, you can easily solo with the standard gauge top. I put these on my 8 string ESP LTD H208 (25" scale) and they're great! Ernie Ball does need to make a set for extended scale though as these don't fit my 27" scale Carvin DC800. I hope to see more for 8 strings.

            Not bad Ernie Ball...

Comments about Ernie Ball 8-String Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 10-74:

For an 8 string pack, these sure are heavy gauge considering they're going on extended scale instruments. They are great for my 7 string though, as i just take out the .064 and string it up for standard A. Same clarity as the skinny top/heavy bottom, but with 2 giant strings on the added strings

            Changed my mind

Comments about Ernie Ball 8-String Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 10-74:

I wrote a review earlier about these strings, but I have definitely changed my mind. I do have an eight string, and I used these for it and wow...they were not very good. The most obvious thing was the .74 string gets smaller WAY before the tuners, even for my seven string. So playing the first fret feels extremely awkward. Second, palm muting on these things sounds hideously dirty compared my old strings or even the stock strings. I also have to agree that a .54 for the E string is very ridiculous. The only thing I'd recommend these for is softer playing or if you never play chords. Otherwise, get the D'Addario or any other 8-string set.

            Great

            By

Comments about Ernie Ball 8-String Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 10-74:

I don't actually use these for an eight string because I only have seven string guitars. However, I think most seven string packs are too wimpy, considering the thickest gauge you can find in retail is about a 60 or so. I love tuning my guitars low (drop Ab, drop Gb, etc.), so I need the thicker bottom string. I take the 74-gauge string and use it as the low B string and then discard the B string in this pack. Then I just use the rest of the strings where they should be on the guitar. They sound awesome and the tension is great but not too tight. That being said, I have played an eight string with these strings and they're great for that too. The lower string could be a little thicker for an eight string but otherwise really good.
