Ernie Ball: String Alloys - Slinky Cobalt on the Cutlass SSS

Description
The Ernie Ball 2720 Cobalt Power Slinky Electric Guitar Strings, a set of strings that provide power and endurance for aggressive styles of playing. Made of a cobalt alloy, these strings have a stronger magnetic relationship with pickups than traditional nickel-plated steel, resulting in higher output, improved clarity and enhanced harmonic response. The Power Slinky gauge delivers chunky, distorted tones perfect for hard rock and heavy metal. Whether you're executing power chords, shredding solos or crushing drop tunings, the 2720 Cobalt Power Slinkys can handle it all while retaining intonation and tune.
Cobalt Construction Provides Unparalleled Output
The cobalt alloy at the core of these strings is the most magnetically active material used in string making today. This high-performance alloy strongly attracts the magnets in your pickups, translating to a hotter signal with beefed-up lows, focused mids and crisp highs. Notes ring out powerfully through high-gain amps and effects with improved note separation. The Power Slinky gauge—.011 to .048—is a favorite of hard rock and metal players for its ability to produce thick, distorted tones at lower tunings without going slack under heavy picking.
Built to Withstand Aggressive Playing Styles
Ernie Ball Cobalt Power Slinky Strings are designed for the demands of energetic rock and metal playing. The cobalt alloy provides superior strength over traditional nickel-plated steel strings which are prone to breaking under heavy picking and tuning down. These strings retain stable intonation even when tuned down significantly and have a slick, flexible feel that allows for speedy fretting and string bending. Players can dig into power chords and ripping leads without fear of string failure.
Handcrafted in California for Optimal Performance
Like all Ernie Ball strings, the 2720 Cobalt Power Slinkys are manufactured in the USA to the highest standards of quality and consistency. Ernie Ball is dedicated to producing strings that inspire creativity in musicians around the world. These Cobalt Power Slinky strings provide the power, tone and durability that hard rock and metal players need to fully realize their musical visions.

Great Strings!
When I bought an ESP electric last year, the guitar was shipped with Ernie Ball slinkies. I hadn't used Ernie Ball's before, but was very impressed and thought ESP got it right pairing the strings with the high output Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates bridge pickup. There are other competitors I also like, but for my ESP, I'll stick with these strings for the Floyd Rose. Also, I found the cobalts really pick up dynamics I could only hear after recording a session using Apple software and hardware. For now, these are my preferred strings for this guitar. I can attack harder with a thicker gauge, and 11's keeps amateurs from messing with my axe. Might even move up to 12's. It does not affect my ability to shred at a higher gauge. Thanks!

Not for me
Just slapped a set of the .011-.048's on my Fender Telecaster. I usually put D'addario nickel wound .011-.049's on it. I tune in standard for the most part on my 6 strings with some occasional drop d stuff. The strings... I'm not overly impressed with them. They do have a lot more presence but i'm not seeing the low end like some other people are. They make my ash body Telecaster sound more twangy like alder where i like the warm sound i get from the ash body in conjunction with my D'addarios. The cleans are nice. It sounds very crisp and glassy but i'm missing the warmth and low end i'm used to. Tried changing the EQ but still didn't do it. Dirty it does maintain clarity. You can play big chords with complex voicings and still hear every note even through a lot of gain. EVEN on the neck pickup it does not get muddy. This, to me, is the best thing about these strings. But my d'addarios still had hotter harmonics which surprised me. I don't care for the feel that much either. The wound strings feel kind of abrasive like an acoustic guitar string and the plain strings have an almost brittle feel to them. bending is smooth against the fret , however. That's what i found for myself about these strings. I have a pack of .010's that i'm going to put on my Carvin when it's due but if i get the same results... back to D'addarios

I use these strings on my Ibanez guitar with humbuckers. They sound super good and bright. I buy these every single time. The cobalt line is great in general, I prefer this gauge cause I have the tendency to randomly down tune every once in a while, and the high strings are thicker in this set. They sound super good distorted, and when clean they sound super bright. I enjoy playing these strings even when I am not plugged in because of how bright they sound. It is super worth the extra few dollars to get the cobalts. #sweepstakes

I am a weekend musician and I was introduced to this product by a fellow guitarist. I have always been a slinky man for over 30 years. I tried these cobalt strings once and was sold. The heavier metal gives a stronger magnetic field for the pickups to do their thing. Improved response and overall resonance is the result. I will be using these strings from now on.
