Comments about Electro-Voice RE20 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone:

This is one of the "industry standard" broadcast microphones found in FM Radio stations, Voice over studios, etc.If you are looking for that "professional" sound in those kinds of applications, this is the mic you want. The reason is simple- listeners have heard this mic so often it's what they associate it characteristics with "professional" sounding voices. Well worth it. It's a heavy mic, so be prepared. Also very good for untreated rooms and poor mic technique. It's VERY directional so it covers these issues.

This microphone was recommended by a professional recording engineer as he matched it to my voice. I was reluctant to spend the cash but now that it's here my Rhode Microphone goes up for sale.

The best tone for the money

    By Josue Lugo

    from Canovanas, Puerto Rico

Comments about Electro-Voice RE20 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone:

I have tried many condenser and dynamic microphones in my career and just to mention some the Neumann M147, Shure KSM44 and SM7B, Audio-Technica AT3035, Sterling Audio ST66,Apex 460, etc. .... No microphone has given me such good results as the RE20. Quiet, Fat,Pleasant and Colorful Tone, good Transient content and Beautiful Vintage Look. To my ears the RE20 has the best tone for the money. On Vocals,Violin,Bass, etc. truly is almost impossible to sound bad. RE20 is a "work horse" in my Studio.
    Simple and effective
    Always the best result

    great vocal condenser

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Electro-Voice RE20 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone:

I have a Neumann u87, a Sennheiser 414, and a Rhode nt-1a. When it comes to recording male voices, this is my preferred mic. It is the industry standard for radio, but for all you podcasters out there, it's probably not worth the dough--save your self some cash and get a large diaphragm condenser.

    Great VO Mic

    By Rex

    from Dallas, TX

Comments about Electro-Voice RE20 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone:

I had been mic shopping for a bit now, and while some folks in the biz may say that this mic is NOT for VO use...i disagree COMPLETELY! This mic has held up to the riggers of the broadcast industry for years and is in production rooms across the country. This being because the quality of this mic beats others to the punch. If you have the cash, this mic is the way to go. Along with a good processor, your sound will reign supreme among audiophiles every where.

    small basement studio

    By Jethro Dirt

    from St. Louis, MO

Comments about Electro-Voice RE20 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone:

I spent most of the 90's in a van or bus and used this mic a ton on my bass cabinets. I ran my signal direct to the board and then miced my cabinet where the signal was affected by whatever I was stepping on. I loved the way this mic on an 8x10 cab. I knew this mic was commonly used on kick drums, so I figured I would give it a try in my basement studio. I put it inside the kick about 3 inches from the head. To me, it sounds great. You turn it on, you get the kick drum. And, now I can bring it to gigs and know what mic the engineer is going to put on my cab every time. It is perfect for what I need. There may be better kick drum mics out there. But for the money, and my needs, the RE20 is a total solution.

    Studio Excellence

By Shadow Stevens For The Block

    from Sacramento, CA

Comments about Electro-Voice RE20 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone:

Being a 17 year radio vet and working for a dozen or so stations, I have logged a lot of time with the RE20 (as well as many other mics). The RE20 is a champ. It sounds really good on almost everybody. I also own my own production studio, and while some people sound better on a good condenser mic, I always test them on the RE20 first, more times than not they sound better on the EV. It's my benchmark. There is a reason why this mic has been the industry standard for decades. You just can't go wrong having one of these in your microphone locker.

    For vocals...

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Electro-Voice RE20 Dynamic Cardioid Microphone:

I've seen a lot of people mention instrumental uses for this, and some even say that they're not sure how it works for vocals...So, for you information, this is a microphone heavily used by Thom Yorke, Radiohead's vocalist, for both recording and performance. So there ya' go, vocalists.
